Although the United Arab Emirates is a Muslim country, make no mistake, just like Christmas, Easter is a big celebration that is observed by the local expat community.

Whether you are still a big believer in the Easter Bunny, want to attend a church service, or look at it as a fantastic family opportunity to gather with your loved ones, there’s always plenty going on around Abu Dhabi to help you celebrate Easter in the sunshine.

Easter Dates for 2026

For Catholics, Easter Sunday will be observed on 5 April 2026, whilst Orthodox Christians will observe the occasion on 12 April 2026.

Unlike the past few years, the Catholic Easter no longer coincides with the Holy Month of Ramadan.

While both religious events are based on lunar cycles, Ramadan advances by approximately 10 days each year, whereas Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the Spring Equinox. We are looking a couple of decades away before we need to worry about when Easter and Ramadan will coincide again!

Weather in Abu Dhabi at Easter

The weather around Easter is traditionally among the best of the year for visitors to Abu Dhabi, with exceptionally nice conditions for sun-seekers.

Abu Dhabi doesn’t have a spring per se, but March and April are as close as you’ll get when the daytime highs are hot, while early mornings and evenings are still pleasant to be outside.

With Easter falling in early April this year, you can expect warm weather in Abu Dhabi. Daytime highs can reach the low 40s °C, while overnight temperatures drop to an average of 24.6°C (76°F).

It is advisable to avoid the peak of the day outdoors in April in Abu Dhabi; if you are out and about, apply plenty of sunscreen and bring your hat and sunglasses.

Water temperatures in Abu Dhabi at Easter remain a little on the cool side, though those from cooler climates will likely find it delightful, with water temperatures around 25°C. (Most large resorts will have temperature-controlled pools if it’s still a little chilly for your liking at Easter time in Abu Dhabi.)

Easter also often coincides with international school breaks, further increasing the popularity of visiting at this time of year. Locally, the spring break will occur in March this year, but nonetheless, the pleasant weather of April brings big crowds (under usual circumstances; this won’t be the case in 2026).

Ramadan Nights at the Park

Ramadan at Umm Al Emarat Park will offer a serene setting for families, featuring Oud Music, tanoura shows, and storytelling sessions throughout the month.

Come to the park at sunset to see the traditional firing of the cannon, then enjoy the Ramadan Garden Iftar menu curated in collaboration with Emirati Chef Mariam Al Mansoori.

On Friday and Saturday, Market at the Park will return with a later session, running from 8:00 PM to 1:00 AM. Peruse the shopping stalls filled with handicrafts and tasty traditional bites, then join in the fun of a Ramadan-themed park scavenger hunt at 9:00 PM, as well as lantern making and Hakawati (storytelling session).

It is important to remember that Ramadan is a time for spiritual reflection and togetherness. While these Abu Dhabi Ramadan events are by no means limited to the Muslim community, please be mindful that you are attending a religious occasion in an Islamic country.

Whilst it may come across as ‘business as usual’ these days during the Holy Month in Abu Dhabi, please be mindful when attending a Ramadan event that you are; dress appropriately for the occasion and refrain from eating and drinking around those fasting until after sunset.

Are you planning a trip to the UAE in March 2026 and wondering whether the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi will remain open during Ramadan this year? The answer is YES!

Ramadan 2026 is likely to commence on 17 February 2026 and run until 19 March 2026, subject to moon sighting.

Contrary to popular belief and what may have occurred in the past during Ramadan, the stunning Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi will remain open during the Holy Month of Ramadan in 2026 (1447).

The hours are slightly adjusted, and there is an evening closure over Iftar. During this time in the evening, the iftar cannon (Madfa al iftar) is fired, signalling the end of the day’s fasting and Maghrib prayers.

Grand Mosque Opening Hours over Ramadan 1447 (2026)

Timings for the Grand Mosque during Ramadan are usually split into the first 20 days and the last 10 days – please observe the exact timings based on moon sightings.

First 20 days of Ramadan 1447 (approx 18 Feb to 9 March)

• Saturday to Thursday: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM & 9:30 PM to 1:00 PM
• Fridays: 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM & 9:30 PM to 1:00 AM

Last 10 days of Ramadan 1447 (approx 10 March to 19 March)

We are awaiting confirmation if they are changing the hours for the last 10 days of Ramadan, as presently there is only one set of opening hours advertised for Ramadan 1447.

• Saturday to Thursday: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
• Fridays 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM

Guided cultural tours will continue throughout Ramadan. There is no need to book; details will be available when you arrive.

Entry to the Grand Mosque in 2026

Entry to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque remains free for tourists, and the cultural tours are free.

Pre-registration is required to enter the Grand Mosque; there are no longer any COVID restrictions or “Green Alhosn” needed.

For Muslims, please observe the following prayer timetable issued by szgmc.gov.ae.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi over Eid

The mosque is open from Saturday to Thursday, 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM, during the first day of Eid Al-Fitr (the Feast of Breaking the Fast) and Eid Al-Adha (the Feast of Sacrifice).

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque operates with a strict dress code for visitors.

Since 2020, the ability to hire a free abaya or Kandura has been suspended for health and safety reasons. You will need to ensure you are appropriately dressed for the Grand Mosque before arriving or within the grounds of the Grand Mosque.

There is now a small souq (market) where inexpensive clothing can be bought—for example, a cheap abaya costs around AED 40 – 80 at Souq Al Jami.

Abu Dhabi Special Events in February 2026

February is the perfect time to get outdoors in Abu Dhabi. There’s often an action-packed lineup of outdoor concerts and festivals to make the most of the final month of milder weather.

However, this year, the holy month of Ramadan is set to begin from sundown on 17 February, which may affect the usual events calendar. Whilst there may be a downturn in concerts and sporting events, Ramadan will bring nights of festivity, as the Muslim population breaks their daily fasts with iftar meals around the city.

These range from simple one-dish affairs to elaborate 5* buffets. There will be Ramadan night markets and special cultural events galore, so don’t forget to check this page again before your visit for the most up-to-date information!

Cultural Events in Abu Dhabi this February

• The Al Hosn Festival 2026 will conclude on 1 February 2026 – Qasr al Hosn
• The Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival, which is held on purpose-built festival showgrounds in Al Wathba, is in full swing during February. The festival will, however, conclude slightly early this year, in line with the start of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
• The Al Ain Heritage Festival is running from 31 January through to 9 February 2026 at ADNEC Centre, Al Ain.
• Experience the Kayan Wellness Festival on 6 & 7 February 2026, which promises feel-good vibes and holistic living experiences – Fahid Island
• Animena Abu Dhabi festival returns from 11 to 15 February 2026 – Manarat Al Saadiyat
• Al Dhafra Water Festival is usually scheduled for February/March but we are yet to see confirmed dates for 2026 – Al Mughaira Beach, Al Dhafra (Western Region).
• The holy month of Ramadan is due to start on or around the 18th February (subject to the moon sighting). As the sun sets during Ramadan, the city comes alive with vibrant iftar (the traditional meal to break the daily fast) gatherings in a wide range of venues. Live Music & Theatre

• Peppa Pig will be having another ‘Fun Day Out’ at the Etihad Arena on 1 February 2026.
• Enjoy the Saadiyat Nights concert series, with legendary songstress Mariah Carey on 7 February, followed by Canadian superstar Bryan Adams on February 11. Making his Abu Dhabi debut John Mayer will take to the stage on 15 February with the season’s closing performance – Saadiyat Island.
• Enjoy music from the UAE National Orchestra, who will be performing their ‘Faces of Love’ concert at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation on 4 February.
• Ink – Huang Yi Studio + will truly mesmerize you with their unique blend of dance, technology, and calligraphy live at New York University Arts Center on 5 February.
• The UAE National Orchestra will also be offering a unique ‘Journey East’ in a performance that questions what could have unfolded if Vivaldi had encounter the music and instruments of the Arab world – New York University Theatre – 7 February. For a more traditional approach Russian Classics on 14 February will celebrate the music of Shostakovich, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky – also at New York University Theatre.

Sporting events in Abu Dhabi this February

• Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open Tennis WTA 500 (Women’s Tournament) will take place from 31 Jan to 7 February 2026 – Abu Dhabi International Tennis Centre
• The UCI UAE Cycling Tour will include a women’s race from 5-8 February 2026, and the men’s race between February 16 and 22 – various locations.
• TriYas Triathlon event returns for its 16th Edition on 14 February 2026 – Yas Marina Circuit

Suggested Abu Dhabi Tourist Activities in February 2026

Given the weather, you undoubtedly want to experience the best of Abu Dhabi outdoors during February. Why not try:

• Qasr Al Hosn – found in the centre of Abu Dhabi island. Home to Abu Dhabi’s original landmark building the Al Hosn Fort, this is the perfect place to come and take a step back through history during the cool and pleasant winter months, with a variety of indoor and outdoor displays.

• Kayak the Mangroves – there are a couple of superb spots to do this, both close to town. Try the Mangroves National Park at Eastern Mangroves (adjacent to the Anantara Hotel)! Kayaking is now also available at Jubail Mangrove Park, Reem Island and around the Louvre, Saadiyat Island.

• A city boat tour – A fabulous way to see the city made up of hundreds of islands; there are several departure locations and types of boats, from thrilling speed boats to more sedate traditional dhows to get out on the water and enjoy the fresh winter air.

• Enjoy an evening in the desert – most tour operators are again taking visitors to the rich golden dunes just outside of the city for a unique and memorable desert experience. Expect dune bashing, quad biking and a camel ride before settling into evening entertainment, including BBQ dinner and a dance show over shisha and henna painting.

• Enjoy the spoils of Valentine’s Day which will be widely marked at hospirality venues across the capital on Friday 14 February, and no doubt alla cross the weekend with romantic dinners and more!

• And should you find that there’s a wet and windy day, perhaps visit Abu Dhabi’s ‘Prison Island’, a network of 26 challenging escape rooms tucked inside Abu Dhabi Mall.

Day Trips from Abu Dhabi in February 2026

February is a great time to explore all that the UAE has to offer. Whilst a day trip to Dubai is an obvious choice for many visitors, here are some of the UAE’s lesser-known day trips:

• A day exploring Jebel Hafeet Desert Park – Explore the 5000-year-old beehive tombs and many hiking trails at the foot of Jebel Hafeet, Al Ain. There are also overnight camping and glamping options to consider here.
• Visit Al Ain Oasis and the various forts and palaces in Abu Dhabi’s ‘Garden City’. See how dates have been cultivated for generations using the elaborate aflaj system and visit the Palace of Sheikh Zayed, the UAE’s founding father. Try this day tour, which will include your guide and transportation.

Abu Dhabi with Kids in February 2026

There’s still plenty of fun for the kids to have outside during February 2024. Why not try:

• The CircuitX experiences on Al Hudayriat Island. Ropes course, zipline, rock climbing, and free fall are all on offer at one location, or head over to the beach and Marsana for the Skate Park and Splash Pad as the afternoons in Abu Dhabi start to heat up for Spring.

Al Maryah Winter Wonderland (2025)

Whilst activities may be inside the Mall rather than along the waterfront, the Galleria is still promising a magical escape into a winter wonderland this festive season.

From the 6 to the 26 December families can enjoy the whimsical festive wonderland installations throughout the mall, which include cloud catching, letters to Santa, arts and crafts and lots of festive games. There will, of course, also be the chance to meet Santa!

Masdar City Winter Festival (2025)

This fun family event occurs a few days before Christmas at Central Park, Masdar City. A 12-meter-tall tree takes center stage while kids participate in festive activities, including gingerbread house-making and a Christmas bookmark workshop. The big man is expected to appear and look out for the roaming street act, Choco Loco Carnival.

Ferrari World Winter Fest (2025)

This year’s Winterfest will include an ice skating show, live acrobatics, a treasure hunt, live entertainment, and a giant Christmas tree. There will also be arts and crafts and the chance to build your own gingerbread house (this must be booked in advance and involves an extra fee).

Winter Spectacular at WB World (2025)

You can also celebrate Christmas with Batman and Bugs Bunny at Warner Bros. World’s Winter Spectacular! 

Beautiful decorations, magical Christmas shows, and many other festive treats exist. Expected additional shows, including Merry Mayhem, Daffy’s Dance Party, Jingle Bell Rock, and Naughty or Nice with the Joker and Harley Quinn.

SeaWonder Celebration (2025)

Fa La La Land Reem Mall

In addition to the Santa meet and greet experience at Ski Abu Dhabi, on the Ground Floor Atrium of Reem Mall, you can enter Fa La La land.

WEADS Jingle Bells Market (2024)

This family event at Le Royal Meridien Abu Dhabi is the perfect way to kick off the festive season with 60+ local artisans selling their crafts in one venue. Carrollers will add to the atmosphere, along with a live band and Santa’s visit. There will also be a grape tasting, a Gin Bar, and fun family activities.

Mirbad Express at Erth (2025)

Places to Get A Photo With Santa in Abu Dhabi

We’ve mentioned several places to meet Santa in this article, but to help summarise and distinguish between free and paid opportunities, we’ll conclude with an Abu Dhabi Santa listing! (correct at time of publishing!)

• Breakfast with Santa – various December dates as stated above at Le Royal Meridien – by reservation only, paid event
• Yas Winter Fest – included with event entry, queue on the day
• Snow Abu Dhabi – Reem Mall – reservations essential, paid from AED 160
• Santa’s Grotto at Galleria, Al Maryah Island. There’s a Santa letterbox here, too – reservations are recommended; you can sometimes get walk-in slots
• Cafe Columbia at Beach Rotana will offer Santa photo sessions daily from 3 pm to 9 pm (15 to 24 December) – we believe this is free!

Unconfirmed regulars include Abu Dhabi Mall, Yas Mall, and World Trade Centre. We expect they will announce something at the last minute.

There are also many tree lightings during December and brunches where Santa will appear on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We’ve seen him arrive on a camel at the Ritz Carlton, in a sports car at W Hotel, and by golf buggy at Abu Dhabi Golf Resort – it will undoubtedly be a unique and memorable experience for your family.

Looking to visit Abu Dhabi over the Eid Al Etihad/National Day weekend in early December?

It is a fantastic time to be in Abu Dhabi. Not only are you almost guaranteed beautiful mild weather in early December, but there is always so much going on!

National Day (recently renamed Eid al Etihad – Celebration of the Union) is celebrated on 2 December to mark the day the country of the United Arab Emirates was formed in 1971 under a Federal Constitutional Monarchy. 2025 marks 54 years of unification.

As well as celebrating the history and culture of the UAE, Union/National Day also marks the achievements of all Abu Dhabi residents. Children dress in the colour of the flag, and people decorate their houses and cars with all sorts of UAE-themed paraphernalia.

How long is the National Day holiday?

In December 2025, Abu Dhabi residents will enjoy a 4.5-day weekend from Friday, 28 November to Tuesday, 2 December.

Note that although National Day is usually observed on 2-3 December, due to the dates falling midweek this year, the official public holiday for the federal government (with the private sector and Ministry of Education following suit) has been moved to make for a long weekend of celebrations.

Fursan Al Emarat Airshow Returns in 2025

After an absence of several years, the UAE’s national aerobatic team, Fursan Al Emarat, will return with several spectacular National Day airshows in 2025.

• Monday, December 1st, 1:00 pm on the Corniche
• Monda,y December 1st, 4:00 pm at the Union Parade, Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival, Al Wathba
• Tuesday, December 2nd, 4:00 pm on the Corniche
• There will also be two additional chances to catch the team in Al Wathba at 4:00 pm on the 3rd and 4th of December.

The Emirates Palace, Mandarin Oriental

As well as lighting up the skies with fireworks this Eid Al Etihad, the Emirates Palace will also offer a range of children’s activities and workshops from 29 November until 2 December 2025.

Some activities are free, others incur a charge.

Abrahamic Family House

This interfaith complex in Saadiyat Cultural District will be holding a community event on 28 November 2025 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Expect live cooking displays, traditional games like carrom, henna artistry, a fan calligraphy workshop, along with Emirati pop-up stores showcasing local crafts and flavours.

Hekayah | The Story

Hekayah | The Story brings together poets, singers, and musicians to showcase the beautiful diversity of the UAE in this special free show at The Arts Centre NYU Abu Dhabi on November 27.

Celebrate UAE National Day with a lineup of poets, spoken word artists, musicians, and storytellers from diverse backgrounds coming together to explore their heritages and cultures for the 10th annual Hekayah.

Entry is free, but please pre-book via Platinumlist

Mother of the Nation Festival 2025 (Al Dhafra & Al Ain)

Still in Abu Dhabi Emirate but beyond the city, the popular MOTN (Mother of the Nation) Festival will take place over the National Day long weekend.

From 28 November to 2 December, expect live entertainment, great food, rides and activities – think giant inflatables, arcade games, arts and crafts, and, of course, it’s likely that Eid al-Etihad will be observed with fireworks!

Fireworks & Festivities at the Galleria Mall – Al Maryah Island 2025

The Galleria on Al Maryah Island usually host a 2-day commemorative event on the Promenade (between the Rosewood Hotel and Four Seasons) followed by fireworks on 1 & 2 December.

A scaled back calendar of events has been released for 2025 in the North Atrium, which includes:

• Pride of Nation Walk
• Ayallah Dance (4 sets x 20mins per day but no indication of timing had been given)
• Henna art and face painting
• Traditional F&B
• Abu Dhabi Police Musical Marching Band on 2 December, 4:00 to 7:00 PM
• There are no fireworks on the schedule for Al Maryah Island in 2025 for Eid Al Etihad

A Spectacle at Qasr Al Watan

This year, Qasr al Watan will host a special program that highlights the history and cultural heritage of the UAE. This will include, Ayala dancers and a traditional majlis with coffee and dates, as well as a falconry experience. The evening ‘Palace in Motion Sound and Light Show’ will also be accompanied by patriotic images of the UAE flag and a rousing rendition of the national anthem, offering a memorable way to spend this national day.

The Palace is open daily from 10:00 AM until 5.00 PM over the National Day long weekend.

The Palace in Motion show usually commences at 6:30PM.

Tickets to the Palace are 65 AED adults; 30 AED for children

Other things to know about the National Day Holidays in Abu Dhabi

• Schools, Government offices, and most businesses will most likely take 29 November to 2 December off to celebrate this special occasion – visitors should be mindful of this if they need any sort of visa processing, etc.
• If you have a car, public parking is free! (but be mindful that everywhere can be INCREDIBLY busy!) Take public transport if you can.
• If you are travelling by private car, plan your trip carefully to avoid road closures, particularly in the hour or so before/after the fireworks are due to occur.
• Want to get dressed up?  Go for it! Traditional dress in the colours of the UAE flag, locals and residents alike wear the UAE’s colours of red, green, white, and black with pride; you should feel free to do the same.

Other Events Happening in the UAE This National Day Long Weekend

Beyond just Eid Al-Etihad, early December brings perfect weather and a myriad of other events across the UAE. Keep your eye out for:

• The Emirates Dubai 7’s in Dubai will take place at the Rugby Sevens Stadium on Saturday, 29, and Sunday, 30 November 2025; Far more than just Rugby, this is a huge community sporting event in the nation, including padel, cricket, netball, and much more!
• The Mudabala Sail GP Final takes place off Mina Port on 29 & 30 November 2025.
• Fast-paced T10 Cricket action will be taking place at the Zayed Cricket Stadium (Abu Dhabi Cricket & Sports Hub) until 30 November 2025.
• Fontana Water Circus is running this winter at Marina Mall, and the Stranger Things Experience on Yas Island.
• The Zayed National Museum will be opening its doors to the public from Wednesday, 3 December 2025. This closely follows the opening in late November of the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, all part of the greater Saadiyat Cultural District.
• Things will also start revving up early in the week for the impending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which takes place from 5-7 December 2025.

What to expect at Fontana Winter 2025-26

After delighting audiences across the UAE in recent years — including at Dubai Festival City in 2022, Abu Dhabi Marina Mall in 2023, and Yas Island in 2024 — the travelling water-theatre sensation Fontana is back for 2025. This season, the iconic blue-and-yellow Big Top returns to Abu Dhabi, now set beside Marina Mall for another round of spectacular family entertainment.

Created by the Lebanese troupe Cirque Du Liban, Fontana blends aerial artistry, high-energy performances, dancers, and its signature Dancing Musical Fountain to deliver a captivating aquatic show unlike any other.

The Abu Dhabi 2025 season will run from 13 November 2025 through to January 2026. Performances are scheduled for:

• Thursday 7:00 PM
• Friday 4:30 PM and 8:00 PM
• Saturday 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM
• Sunday 11:30 AM and 3:30 PM

What To Expect at a Fontana Show

This two-hour spectacular takes place under a traditional Big Top, with the water stage as the show’s dramatic focal point. Expect clever clowns, daredevil motorcycle stunts, enchanting vocals, vibrant dance numbers, and impressive acrobatics.

Vibrant, loud, and colourful, you’re in for a breathtaking and entertaining evening of fun. Without giving too much away, here are some photo highlights from the winter 2025 show:

It’s loud, colourful, and full of energy — the perfect mix for a memorable family night out. A minimal splash zone may reach the first few rows (from the clowns, not the water stage!), but you won’t need a poncho.

For families who’ve seen Fontana in previous years, the 2025 edition follows the same much-loved format, with most acts returning; while the archery segment is absent this season, the show still delivers two breathtaking hours of high-energy, family-friendly entertainment.

How Much Does Fontana Cost?

Ticket prices range from AED 90 for restricted-view Green seats (you’re under the trapeze net; this was the only part we thought looked truly obscured) to AED 300 for premium Gold seats in the front three rows.

Silver seating, at AED 200, offers an excellent vantage point close to the action (and you’d get, I would argue, a better view of the motorbikes!)

Doors open 30 minutes before showtime, though arriving around 15 minutes prior is typically sufficient. A refreshments stall inside the tent offers popcorn, candy floss, and snacks before the show and during intermission.

Where to Find Fontana Circus in Abu Dhabi

For 2025, the Big Top is located at Marina Mall, set up in the large outdoor parking area. You can easily reach it by taxi or car (Hopefully they will update “Fontana Circus Tent” on Google Maps as it’s still presently showing the location as Yas Island, which is incorrect for winter 2025/26!)

Other Key Facts You’ll Want to Know About Fontana

• The minimum age to attend is 2 years old (you may see younger children, but note that the loud sound effects and bright lights are not suitable for infants).
• Only snacks purchased at the concessions can be taken into the Grandstand.
• The tent is comfortably air-conditioned, though a cardigan or shawl may help if you’re prone to feeling chilly.
