The spa brochure is extensive, but we recommend the Arabian Desert Rose ritual – a half-day experience which includes a floral foot ritual, a rose desert sand body scrub, followed by a rhassoul body mask, a rose milk bath, and a sensual rose body massage. Saray Spa, Al Wathba – A Luxury Collection

Another desert retreat that shouldn’t be underestimated is the beautiful Al Wathba, A Luxury Collection. Less far off the beaten track but with beautiful spa facilities, the Al Wathba resort is ideal for a day trip or overnight stay (although you may want to stay much longer)!

You’ll find the resort around a 45-minute drive from the city and only 30 minutes from the airport.

The spa includes 11 treatment rooms, tranquil relaxation areas, saunas, steam rooms, plunge pools, salt rooms, snow caves, an ice room, and a traditional Turkish Hammam.

Book classic treatments from their extensive spa menu, which includes everything from Balinese or Swedish massage to body wraps, or try day access to the picturesque luxury spa for just AED 200.

Best Spas on Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi

Saadiyat Island is famous for its string of ultra-luxurious resorts that line the glistening white sands of Saadiyat Beach. It’s arguably the best place to come in the UAE for a luxury beach vacation suitable for couples and families. Each resort offers something unique, and each has an incredible spa!

Best Spa for Couples

Atarmia Spa at the Park Hyatt is great for couples and is one of the top spas in Abu Dhabi.

The beautifully presented couples therapy room has a large jacuzzi bath and double shower. There are separate steam rooms, sauna and jacuzzi facilities in the changing rooms and a private outdoor swimming pool for spa guests outside.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Emirates Palace Abu Dhabi

If you love a Moroccan Hammam and aren’t up for heading out to the desert, this Abu Dhabi hotel spa should be top of your list. The Emirates Palace has some of the best spa facilities in the world, but treatments are a little expensive, with a signature massage costing AED 990 at the time of writing.

This is, however, no bog-standard hotel massage. Therapists are highly trained, and the facilities really are exceptionally regal. Treatment brands include MarocMaroc, OTO CBD, and Miriam Quevedo.

The variety of experiences on offer is quite different from what you will find elsewhere in Abu Dhabi. This includes a 30-minute Cleopatra milk bath and a Himalayan singing bowl experience, alongside the more standard hot stone massage and aromatherapy massages that you will find elsewhere.

Several hotel spas offer two-for-one deals via The Entertainer. These are great if you want to spend the day with a friend or loved one, but can also be used by an individual on two separate days.

Cultural & Sightseeing Places to Visit in Abu Dhabi for FREE

You may be excited to learn that nearly all of the best cultural places to visit in Abu Dhabi are FREE or really cheap!

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

The country’s most beautiful building is a mustn’t-miss attraction for residents and visitors alike and is completely FREE to enter; you can even join a guided cultural tour, completely FREE!

If you are not appropriately dressed, you may need to buy a cheap abaya or kandura from the small souk (these used to be borrowed for free, but this changed over COVID).

Open Sat – Thu 9:00 am – 10:00 pm, Fri 9:00 am – 12:00 pm & 3:00 pm to 10.00 pm.

Wahat al Karama

Immediately opposite the Grand Mosque, you will find the Wahat Al Karama War Memorial – “Oasis of Dignity”. There is a visitor centre to explore, the Pavilion of Honour, and the memorial itself, which features 31 aluminium-clad tablets representing Emirati lives lost in conflict.

You can also get beautiful photos of the Mosque from the reflective pond. Open daily 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. FREE.

Qasr al Watan

The stunning Presidential Palace is one of the city’s modern wonders and most beautiful landmark buildings.

Entry to the palace itself may blow the daily budget just a little (AED 65 per adult,) but a trip to the Palace in Motion evening sound and light show is just AED 25 per adult / AED 12 for juniors.

Palace in Motion times do vary so be sure to check show times and book in advance, last entry is 30 minutes before show time.

The Abrahamic Family House

Opened in 2023, the Abrahamic Family House is an interfaith complex comprising a mosque, a church, and a synagogue located on Saadiyat Island. The aim of the complex is to welcome people from all walks of life to exchange knowledge and practice faith. Visitors of all faiths are invited to learn about the three Abrahamic faiths and their rituals.

Open to visitors Tuesday – Sunday 10:00 am – 5.00 pm.

The Abrahamic Family House is FREE to enter, but visitor tickets must be booked in advance and follow the dress code for religious buildings in Abu Dhabi.

Emirates Heritage Village

Based on the breakwater near Abu Dhabi Marina Mall, take a step back in time to experience traditional desert life in the heart of the city. Learn about traditional crafts, Bedouin housing and falconry.

The Founders Memorial

Situated near Emirates Palace, before the breakwater, this exhibition is a visitor information centre as well as The Constellation, a giant artwork that lights up at night in the image of Sheikh Zayed.

The visitor centre is open 9:00 am – 10:00 pm daily, and FREE tours are possible.

Emirates Palace

No need to have an extravagant booking; at most times, visitors are free to come and admire the front steps and inside Emirates Palace. You can take your photos, but remain respectful; covered knees and shoulders are required for ladies and gents, no shorts.

Staying for gold flake coffee, afternoon tea, or a camel burger is, of course, recommended, but anything beyond admiration and a few photos to mark the occasion will likely break the AED 100 daily budget!

Al Maqta’a Museum

Freshly renovated and reopened in May 2025, this former Customs House was built in the 1950s to monitor entry to Abu Dhabi when the first causeway was constructed to Abu Dhabi island (Now dwarfed by the much larger Sheikh Zayed Bridge).

The building has been preserved for its socio-cultural importance as a shared effort between the Department of Culture and Tourism and the Abu Dhabi Police. The free exhibits here focus on policing throughout the decades.

Warehouse 421

A cultural destination in Abu Dhabi’s port area of Mina Zayed. Warehouses have been transformed for artistic expression, understanding, and further development of the UAE’s creative community.

Housed inconspicuously in a villa in Al Bateen (Behind Al Bateen Mall), this contemporary art space and café is FREE to visit and enjoy works from Emirati and UAE-based artists.

Opening hours are advertised as 8.00 am until 9.00 pm daily, although seasonal variations may apply.

New York University Art Gallery

Offering seasonal exhibitions from both local and international artists, the New York University Art Gallery is completely FREE to visit.

Salwa Zeidan Gallery

A real hidden gem, the Salwa Zeidan Gallery, located at the Millennium Al Rawdah Hotel, champions local and regional artists. Exhibitions rotate regularly and include painting, photography, sculpture, and the performing arts.

Abu Dhabi Children’s Library

Abu Dhabi’s stunning children’s library is well worth a visit. You can spend hours looking at books in the comfortable and quirky reading spaces around the 5,250-square-meter site, and it’s all completely FREE!

Located at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation in Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street in the Al Hosn area of Abu Dhabi.

Open 9:00 am – 8:00 pm Saturday – Thursday, and 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm Friday.

Camel Racing

No trip to the UAE is complete without taking in a dose of camels, and what better way to do it than watching them race at the Al Wathba race track? Sure, there might be more 4WDs than camels… It’s all part of the fun.

Held weekends and public holidays during the cooler winter months around dawn. (Exact timetables and information are hard to come by). An amazing place to experience the heart and soul of Abu Dhabi, and one of the best things to do for FREE in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Fish Market

Visiting a local market is an interesting addition to any trip, and the most interesting market in Abu Dhabi is undoubtedly the fish market. The new Fish Market, opened in 2022, has 104 fresh fish stalls and 44 cleaning stations.

Whilst it’s missing some of the charm of the old fish market, it has the same bustling atmosphere and is a great place to see the variety of fish and seafood caught locally.

Open daily from 7:00 am until 9:00 pm (10:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays).

The market is completely FREE to enter.

Enjoy a ladies’ night!

Not for families, but we thought we should mention the FREE and very cheap ladies’ nights around the city.

Often these involve a small cover charge, which entitles ladies to a small plate of food and unlimited alcoholic drinks for the evening; sometimes the requirement is that food must be purchased for ladies to drink for free.

Some ladies’ nights are totally free and provide a limited number (usually 3) of free drinks. Offers change regularly, but we’ve rounded up some of the best Abu Dhabi Ladies Night deals available right now below:

Outdoor Family Fun in Abu Dhabi for FREE

There are so many great outdoor spaces and beautiful beaches in Abu Dhabi that can be enjoyed totally FREE (or with a very small entry fee).

The Corniche and Al Bahar

The Corniche Beach has been one of Abu Dhabi’s highlights for years, whilst A’l Bahar opened in 2018 as a new family entertainment district on the beachfront near to Nation Towers.

Much of the beachfront has been rejuvenated and is FREE to use during daylight hours. The family beach area charges AED 10 per adult for access to clean, relatively private facilities.

You could optionally spend money on some extras, including bike hire and activities within the Al Bahar complex, such as ropes courses and the inflatable obstacle course that may blow your daily budget.

Several play parks, splash areas, and skate parks all along the Corniche, though, are completely FREE.

Public beach areas have lifeguards on duty during daylight hours, and the Corniche footpath stays open 24/7 for recreational use.

Umm al Emmarat Park (formerly Mushrif Park)

You will find this beautiful family park in the centre of Abu Dhabi island. Its botanical gardens, play parks, wadi, petting zoo, and extensive lawns make it the perfect urban escape.

A cover charge of AED 10 per person applies. Additional activities, such as feeding the animals and using the train, cost extra.

You will also find the RIPE food & craft market on a Saturday afternoon (3:00 pm – 9:00 pm) during the cooler winter months.

Reem Central Park

Reem Central Park on Al Reem Island is another new public park, featuring food trucks, play grounds and recreation spaces for all ages to enjoy, all free.

Yas Gateway Parks

For one week of the year, they are car parking for the Grand Prix – the other 51 weeks, two superb free parks for families to enjoy!

Grab bikes or scooters, or enjoy the play parks and barbeques in Gateway Park North and Gateway Park South. FREE.

Sheikha Fatima Park

Spanning 46,000 square meters of reimagined urban space, the beautiful oasis that is Sheikha Fatima Park is a stunning feature. Set back a block from Abu Dhabi Corniche, Sheikha Fatima Park is split into three zones.

Zone 1 contains winding pathways through landscaped gardens. Zone 2 features a skate park, splash park, a beautiful outdoor playground, and an indoor play area, as well as Abu Dhabi’s only pet park.

Zone 3 comprises a large grassed area suitable for sports, concerts, and outdoor cinema, as well as numerous cafes and restaurants. There are various murals around the park that also shouldn’t be missed!

The park is open daily, 6:00 am -10:00 pm – Seasonal variations may apply.

Entry to the park is FREE. Some activities attract a small charge.

Al Bateen Beach

On the west side of Abu Dhabi Island, the low-key Al Bateen Beach is a family winner. Safe patrolled swimming with an adjacent play park, lawn, and a women-only section (Paid, 25AED adults, 5AED kids).

Open 10:00 am to 10:00 pm; swimming allowed until sunset.

Al Hudayriat Island

Located to the west of Abu Dhabi island (continue along 19th, beyond Al Bateen Beach), Al Hudayriat Island is a sports and recreation paradise!

Some sections of the beach attract a charge, but there is still a beautiful stretch of sand that’s free to use (a fee for sun loungers and umbrellas applies). You’ll find everything you need here, including changing rooms and public toilets.

Put together your own basketball or beach volleyball games, play on the pristine white sandy beach, or let the kids run off some steam at the playground.

There are numerous food trucks as well as a handful of permanent restaurants.

The bike tracks around the island can be used for FREE, but you will have to pay extra if you choose to participate in other sporting activities like those run by Circuit X for kids, and to hire sports pitches and courts.

You’ll also find the Hudayriyat Heritage Trail, which explores the island’s past, for free.

Saadiyat Beach

The most stunning stretch of white sand beach in the Middle East, facing the Arabian Gulf, is home to a string of luxury beach resorts and beach clubs.

Whilst you’ll need to play for any of the club and resort facilities, Saadiyat Beach itself is public property and is technically free to walk along and splash in the water.

Eastern Mangroves National Park

Enjoy a view of the mangroves from the Eastern Mangroves hotel complex. For an extra cost, you can hire kayaks or eco donut boats to enjoy the mangroves close up, or take a stroll along the 4.5 km-long Al Gurm Corniche, stretching to 19th Street.

NB – this area is currently undergoing major rejuvenation works as at early 2026 so many of the recreation services available here have relocated.

Jubail Mangrove Park

Head to Jubail Mangrove Park, just off the Saadiyat highway, for a longer walk through the mangroves. Explore the mangroves from elevated boardwalks.

Entry to the boardwalk costs 20 AED for adults and children over the age of 11, while children under 11 pay 10 AED. This makes the activity fairly affordable for a family of four.

You can opt to pay more to enjoy your experience with a park ranger as a guide, or perhaps you might like to book one of the many kayaking experiences that take place on the site.

Al Wathba Wetland Reserve

Based just outside of the city, heading towards Al Ain on the Truck Road, you’ll find this protected wetlands area, home to over 250 species of birds, including Flamingos.

Limited operating hours, Thu & Sat 8:00 am – 4:00 pm from September to April only (Temporarily closed- January 2026). FREE.

FREE Sports & Recreation Activities in Abu Dhabi

If there’s one thing the city really excels at, its providing opportunities to access recreation activities for free, helping the community stay fit and active.

Yas Marina Circuit

Whilst attending the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will set you back a packet, you can exercise almost year-round on the Yas Marina Circuit track for FREE.

The 5.5km Yas track is open to the public 3 nights a week for TrainYas (running, walking, and cycling), plus several mornings for cycling only (TrainAM 6:00 am to 8:00 am).

Pre-registration is required, but entry is free. Those without a bike can hire one of the limited number of FREE bikes, or more experienced riders can hire a professional track bike from on-site vendors.

Every Monday, Tuesday (ladies only), and Wednesday from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm.

Those who like to get some distance in their ride should head just beyond Mussafah to Al Wathba, near Endurance Village. The Al Wathba Cycle Track is open 24/7 (floodlit at night) and has 8km, 16km, 20km, 22km, and 30km options, completely FREE.

You can never go past bowling for some indoor family fun! Prices at this ZSC venue start from just AED 25 a game (plus look out for 2-4-1 vouchers). Don’t miss the awesome Chinese restaurant upstairs!

FREE Places to visit in Al Ain

There are many fun and free (and very affordable) things to do in the cultural capital, Al Ain, which is 1.5 hours from Abu Dhabi, making it a great day trip destination.

• Jebel Hafeet – a great experience to road trip to the tallest peak in Abu Dhabi emirate for spectacular views over Al Ain and the border to Oman. FREE.

• Green Mubazzarah – picnic or dip your feet in the natural hot springs at the foot of Jebel Hafeet. FREE (The little train is an extra AED 20 per adult/10 AED per child, and camping in one of the chalets comes with an overnight fee).

• Experience the UNESCO World Heritage Sites – which include the Al Ain Oasis (FREE) Hili Archaeological Park and the Hafeet Tombs in Jebel Hafit Desert Park (some experiences paid).

• Al Ain Palace Museum – the birthhome of the country’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed, is a beautifully restored example of traditional Bedouin architecture. Open 9:00 am to 7:00 pm (Temporarily Closed). FREE.

• Qasr al Muwaiji – the birthplace of Sheikh Khalifa, historic fort and exhibit. Open 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. FREE

• Al Ain Classic Car Museum – cover charge of AED 15 adults, AED 5 for Children 5 – 15 years

• Al Jahili Fort – historic building and photography exhibit, also stroll the beautiful Al Jahili Park next door. FREE

• Al Ain Zoo – arguably one of the Emirate’s top tourist attractions, including the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre. Adults AED 30, kids AED 10.

• Souq Al Qattara – shop at the handicrafts market on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays during winter. FREE (but bring your spending money for some unique souvenirs!)

• Camel Souk – you don’t get a more real and interactive experience than the heart of a camel market in Al Ain! FREE.

Abu Dhabi Emirate – FREE Places to Visit Beyond the City

If you’ve got your own set of wheels and you’re confident driving in Abu Dhabi, there’s a huge, big sandpit out there to explore! Once you’ve accounted for the cost of fuel, why not try:

• Dune Bashing in the Empty Quarter (or almost any patch of the desert!
• Explore the forts of the Liwa Desert. The Liwa Oasis is the ancestral home of the Bani Yas tribe and contains many forts and watchtowers that are FREE to visit. The best place to start your discovery of Liwa’s forts is at the Al Dhafra Fort museum (open daily 10.00am until 6.00pm), before moving on to the Mezairaa Fort and Khanoor Fort (note that these forts are only open to the public at certain times of the year, for example during the Liwa Festival), but they’re still worth a drive-by on your way into the desert for camping (or a stray at a desert resort). Another land mark that has no admission fee is the Tal Moreeb – one of the world’s biggest sand dunes standing at a massive 300 metres.

• Explore the Fossil Dunes (8:00 AM to 8:00 PM) and the unique salt lake near Al Wathba – FREE
• Visit the Emirates National Auto Museum (adults AED 50, kids free)
• Explore Dalma Island and Al-Meraikhi Old House – a historic pearl diving home (Ferry charges apply, but entry to the island and the museum is FREE).
• Stroll the Mamsha al Mugheirah boardwalk- the Western Region’s answer to the stunning mangroves; here, you’ll find a beautiful and educational boardwalk experience, food trucks, and much more in this rejuvenated beachfront location.

And at night time…

• Another place that’s free to visit and has gained a lot of popularity in recent years is the Al Quaa Milky Way viewing spot out in the desert. Unless you’re an experienced 4WD driver who knows the terrain well, this trip is best left to experienced professionals. We recommend Arabian Wanderers for this, as they offer both an adults-only and a family tour to Al Quaa with pick-ups that can be arranged from both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
• Go camping at the beach or in the desert (sand driving experience and equipment necessary)

FREE Transport in Abu Dhabi

Some more money-saving tips in Abu Dhabi you may not be aware of:

• Getting around Yas Island is made easy with FREE Yas Express minibuses. These operate between the hotels and key theme park and tourist attractions on Yas Island, as well as services that run from Saadiyat Island to Yas and from Dubai to Yas Island daily.

• If your timings are flexible, take advantage of the Vist Abu Dhabi courtesy bus system to get between major city attractions and hotels.

• Are you transiting between Dubai or Abu Dhabi for a flight? You may be able to use the Free airline buses operated by Emirates and Etihad to get across the UAE

Staying in Abu Dhabi for FREE

Now, what could be better for saving money on your city stay than getting your accommodation for free?

Etihad is offering transit passengers through AUH an appealing option to stay in one of their designated hotels free of charge for 1 and 2-night stopovers.

There are a few catches to being able to utilise the free night(s) – namely, your flight must be with Etihad (or Etihad-operated codeshare), and you must stay at least 24 hours. Your transfers and meals are NOT included – but as we’ve shown you above, there are so many ways you can see Abu Dhabi on a budget.

Main Exhibits to Experience at teamLab Phenomena

Spanning over 17,000sqm, we’ll walk you through some of the most awe-inspiring exhibits presently open (note we’ve tried to simplify our explanations as those given in the teamLab app can be rather technical and don’t always align to what you’re experiencing, as some rooms have multiple rotating experiences – nothing is really signposted!)

Circulating Universe of Water Particles

This is where your journey into the darkness starts, in what feels like a phenomenal giant forest. Instantly slideable for kids (they’re apparently not allowed to, though), the display will then morph into the next exhibit, Flutter of Butterflies.

Morphing Continuum

The technical explanation is rather lengthy for this exhibit, but in short, there are many floating balls, and even if people disturb them, they will return to their original shape.

Biocosmos

Biocosmos is housed inside a giant sphere, where visitors walk across a suspended net through the center. You might have a small wait here as they control how many can enter at a time.

Those with acrophobia (and ornithophobia!) may prefer to skip this exhibit, or at the very least, cling to the edges! If you’re willing to brave the walk, expect to a 360-degree experience as flocks of birds fly past and elements completely surround you.

Graffiti Nature and Beating Earth

Back on planet Earth, let your little Picasso loose. This is the most interactive exhibit for your littles, where they can see their coloring creations come to life. The creatures they create will crawl into the earth, eventually multiplying when the environment is right, or they could consume one another.

Floating Microcosms

This is the main water exhibit, saved for the end of your journey! Be prepared to roll up the paints or skirt as giant Ovoids rise and fall around you. They repsond to touch and to one another, emitting colour and sound. Wade slowly and be at one with this incredible environment.

As mentioned, there is an app you can download in advance of your visit that provides more detail on the exhibits. But honestly, these explanations flew over the kids’ heads; just step into the darkness, and the staff will guide you on which way to walk and enjoy the immersion. Give each room plenty of time, as the exhibits can change within the same space.

Where to Find teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi

teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is located on Saadiyat Island, part of the Saadiyat Cultural District and within a short drive of Louvre Abu Dhabi and Mamsha Al Saadiyat.

Saadiyat Island is mere minutes from Downtown Abu Dhabi, approximtely 25 minutes from other attractions such as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Qasr al Watan.

Opening Hours

• Open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM
• Note from Monday to Thursday, the last entry for children under 18 is 4:30 PM; Art Undistracted (18+) takes place from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM
• Last entry on weekends and for Art Undistracted is 8:00 PM

We’d recommend allowing at least 1.5 to 2 hours in your itinerary to experience everything fully.

Timed Entry

Visits are based on timed slots, so booking in advance is strongly recommended, especially on weekends and school holidays. You can turn up without a booking, but you may have to wait if a timeslot is full.

Tickets & Cost

Pricing varies by age group, with discounts sometimes available online.

• The base rate for adults and kids 13+ is AED 150
• Children 4 to 12 years AED 50
• Children under 4 years old are free.

Platinumlist also offers combo tickets, including teamLab + Qasr Al Watan (Presidential Palace), or teamLab + Yas Waterworld would make a great family day out.

Public Transport

Bus routes serving Saadiyat Island stop in the Cultural District. The Cultural District is also well serviced by taxis, Careem, and Uber, as well as the free Visit Abu Dhabi shuttle – stopping at the nearby Louvre (allow up to a 15 minute walk).

Parking

Free parking is available at the venue, with accessible spaces near the entrance and designated EV charging spots.

Other Facilities at teamLab

There is a new dining option at teamLab, Anko: Japanese Patisserie.

We’ve not given it the taste test yet but heard great things from handcrafted Wagashi sweets to savoury ‘Pan’ nibbles and ice cream.

Important Sensory Notes

Most of the experience is undertaken in the dark, there’s very little lighting! If children are somewhat afraid of the dark, this is not an appropriate experience for them.

Its also important to note that one of the best experiences at the museum is in water. You can skip it if you really don’t want to get wet, but expect for adults you’ll get wet up to around knee height, make sure jeans etc can be rolled up to your knees.

Lockers and towels are provided, but if you think children will become submerged (discouraged; its an art exhibit not a splash park, but we all know it can happen!) then bring them a change of clothes.

Is teamLab Phenomena Worth the Visit?

teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is an inspiring addition to the city’s cultural offerings—an interactive art experience that captivates toddlers, teens, and adults alike.

Its playful yet calming environments make it a standout activity for families, while adults-only sessions offer a chance to enjoy the installations without little ones underfoot.

We’d recommend only bringing younger children who are good at following directions. Although it’s kid-friendly, there are many instances where they must remain quiet, not splash, etc., which can sometimes be challenging with littles.

We’d definitely pair a visit to teamLab with any of the other cultural attractions on Saadiyat Island. The newly opened Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi is immediately adjacent, as well as the Louvre Abu Dhabi and Zayed National Museum not far away – see the new combined Saadiyat Cultural District Museum Pass to save on these nearby attractions (under 18s FREE at these venues!)

What to expect at Fontana Winter 2025-26

After delighting audiences across the UAE in recent years — including at Dubai Festival City in 2022, Abu Dhabi Marina Mall in 2023, and Yas Island in 2024 — the travelling water-theatre sensation Fontana is back for 2025. This season, the iconic blue-and-yellow Big Top returns to Abu Dhabi, now set beside Marina Mall for another round of spectacular family entertainment.

Created by the Lebanese troupe Cirque Du Liban, Fontana blends aerial artistry, high-energy performances, dancers, and its signature Dancing Musical Fountain to deliver a captivating aquatic show unlike any other.

The Abu Dhabi 2025 season will run from 13 November 2025 through to January 2026. Performances are scheduled for:

• Thursday 7:00 PM
• Friday 4:30 PM and 8:00 PM
• Saturday 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM
• Sunday 11:30 AM and 3:30 PM

What To Expect at a Fontana Show

This two-hour spectacular takes place under a traditional Big Top, with the water stage as the show’s dramatic focal point. Expect clever clowns, daredevil motorcycle stunts, enchanting vocals, vibrant dance numbers, and impressive acrobatics.

Vibrant, loud, and colourful, you’re in for a breathtaking and entertaining evening of fun. Without giving too much away, here are some photo highlights from the winter 2025 show:

It’s loud, colourful, and full of energy — the perfect mix for a memorable family night out. A minimal splash zone may reach the first few rows (from the clowns, not the water stage!), but you won’t need a poncho.

For families who’ve seen Fontana in previous years, the 2025 edition follows the same much-loved format, with most acts returning; while the archery segment is absent this season, the show still delivers two breathtaking hours of high-energy, family-friendly entertainment.

How Much Does Fontana Cost?

Ticket prices range from AED 90 for restricted-view Green seats (you’re under the trapeze net; this was the only part we thought looked truly obscured) to AED 300 for premium Gold seats in the front three rows.

Silver seating, at AED 200, offers an excellent vantage point close to the action (and you’d get, I would argue, a better view of the motorbikes!)

Doors open 30 minutes before showtime, though arriving around 15 minutes prior is typically sufficient. A refreshments stall inside the tent offers popcorn, candy floss, and snacks before the show and during intermission.

Where to Find Fontana Circus in Abu Dhabi

For 2025, the Big Top is located at Marina Mall, set up in the large outdoor parking area. You can easily reach it by taxi or car (Hopefully they will update “Fontana Circus Tent” on Google Maps as it’s still presently showing the location as Yas Island, which is incorrect for winter 2025/26!)

Other Key Facts You’ll Want to Know About Fontana

• The minimum age to attend is 2 years old (you may see younger children, but note that the loud sound effects and bright lights are not suitable for infants).
• Only snacks purchased at the concessions can be taken into the Grandstand.
• The tent is comfortably air-conditioned, though a cardigan or shawl may help if you’re prone to feeling chilly.

What Are the Big Attractions at Al Qana?

Straddling the north and south sides of a canal and connected by several bridges, here’s what you can expect to find at Al Qana:

The National Aquarium

The National Aquarium is home to 46,000 marine creatures, making it the largest aquarium in the Middle East (for now). It offers mesmerizing thematic displays, high-tech interactive elements, and a range of immersive experiences across 10 zones.

• Tickets start from AED 105 for general admission and up to AED 200 for an all-access pass.
• Open 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily (undoubtedly, it is quieter in the mornings and on weekdays, early afternoon, after the school groups are finished! Weekend afternoons and evenings are the busiest)

Pixoul Gaming

This one is especially for gaming fans. This unique entertainment centre specialises in virtual and augmented reality games, ranging from first-person shooters to roller coasters, paragliding, and escape rooms.

There’s also an esports bar showing global gaming events. The space has big screens, beanbags, and a choice of consoles to play while watching gaming action.

Pixoul is also home to the first-ever certified eSport academy in the UAE and holds tournaments for avid gamers.

Adrenark Adventure

Touted as the biggest indoor entertainment centre of its kind in the Middle East, this giant indoor complex in Al Qana is home to every indoor adventure activity you could imagine, from climbing walls and rope courses to indoor go-karting, ziplines, caving and giant slides. This place is an absolute delight for your active tweens and definitely deserves a spot on your agenda if you’re visiting the city with older kids.

Discovery Passes start from AED 135 for six activities to an unlimited day pass for 18+ attractions from AED 299.

It is undoubtedly one of the best indoor activities in Abu Dhabi if you have active kids who need to be kept busy inside during the hottest summer months.

Traditional Abra Rides

You are in close vicinity to Al Qana to the Grand Canal and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. From Al Qana, you can take an abra onto the Grand Canal, which runs between Abu Dhabi and Khor A Maqta for a sensational view of the city’s grandest building.

Tickets cost AED 25 per person for a 20-minute ride, or hire the entire boat for a group for AED 300 for 20 minutes or AED 600 for 45 minutes.

• Available from 4:00 PM to Midnight
• Leaving from Dock E by Cinemacity or Dock H by the Aquarium
• Kids under 3 are free
• Maximum 12 passengers per boat

Hero Boat Tours

Want to captain your own leisure craft and travel at speeds up to 50 km/hr? Much faster and more thrilling than the abra experience, you can hire a single from 595 AED or a double from AED 695 to explore the Abu Dhabi Grand Canal.

Riders need to be aged 6+, and the driver must be 18+ years old. Tours depart several times a day from outside the cinema complex.

Other Water Sports

If you’d prefer to make your own way along the Grand Canal, there are also several water sports activities for hire. You can try kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, or paddleboating. (Coming soon)

Cinema City

CinemaCity is the largest attraction on the north side of the canal. It offers standard screens, a Club Class, a Kids’ Cinema, XXL screens, an IMAX Cinema, and a VIP Class. This 15-screen complex screens Hollywood and Bollywood hits in English, Hindi & Arabic.

The Bridge Wellness Hub

The 8,000-square-metre wellness space is spread across four floors in the centre of the south side of the complex.

It includes a gym, spa, restaurant, juice bar, nutrition corner, shop, indoor running track, and even a rooftop garden and lounge. Fusing all aspects of wellness, the Bridge seeks to connect people through seven specialised offerings: Move, Pause, Taste, Choose, Seek, Expand, and Learn.

Butterfly Gardens Abu Dhabi

The Butterfly Gardens at Al Qana include two indoor domes dedicated to American and Asian species of butterflies. With an educational aim, visitors will learn about the lives of other essential pollinators, such as bees, through the dwarf honeybee exhibit.

The temperature inside is kept fairly constant from 24-32C, and you may experience a light misty rain during your visit to keep the lush tropical atmosphere.

Forever Rose is an imported local favourite for ladies who lunch, a unique café with 2D illustrations that create a comic book-like atmosphere.

Fairly recently renovated, this chic waterfront cafe in Al Bateen perfectly blends menu and setting for an instagrammable delight. With ample indoor and outdoor seating, the ambience is always buzzing but does not feel crowded.

A chain of South African origin, tashas has very much engrained itself as part of the local culture. Their Al Bateen Branch offers many Spanish-inspired dishes such as Spanish eggs and seafood paella.

All-day breakfast is served until 6pm makes this one of our longtime dining favourites for taking our visitors to for that little bit of wow-factor and filling feeds throughout the day.

Zoe Modern Greek Kouzina

Ritual Cafe & Studio

For those who seek out a sleek, modern look, Ritual is known for its all-white ambience, ideal for relaxing and enjoying their carefully crafted breakfast and more filling meals, overlooking the mangrove waterfront.

Bringing a slice of serenity to this urban setting, Ritual is best enjoyed in the winter breeze for a lazy Sunday brunch (the old-fashioned style that happens somewhere between breakfast and lunch). We also love their sleek smoothies and kids’ dining choices.

Raclette Brasserie & Cafe

We couldn’t resist one more entry from Marsana—honestly, it’s a bit of a foodie photographer’s dream at Abu Dhabi’s most desirable address! Raclette is a French-themed dining experience offering several cosy nooks inside its well-appointed dining room as well as a delightful al fresco dining patio for the winter.

They are one of the few venues on our list that’s fully licensed, so this is your spot for a special champagne breakfast or a chilled-out Saturday brunch with live entertainment overlooking the beach.

Cheese and wine nights are another featured favourite, and of course, their extensive menu of French cuisine makes this one of the city’s gems that shines above the rest for both meal quality and ambience.

Yellow Door Cafe

Known for its distinctively painted yellow door and an old-school yellow pick-up truck parked outside, this is one of those hidden gems you’ll only hear about from locals (or the AI content scrapers!). We love that it’s open early in the morning, so it’s perfect for those on the school run, and they have even added a cute kids’ colouring corner.

Not just a pretty place to dine with its chic boho interior, you can pick up some local specialities here, too, such as date milkshakes with a caffeine twist and mojito mocktails. The selection is quite simple, but it’s a quirky and fun find for your Instagrammers seeking somewhere new.

This opulent Mediterranean restaurant has expanded its reach from Saudi to the UAE. There are now two branches of Somewhere to be found in Abu Dhabi at Yas Mall and Marina Mall. Marina Mall has the added bonus of also serving breakfast, which includes our favourite dish, the beautiful shakshuka.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque*

There’s never a bad time to visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Whether it’s your first or 10th visit to the Grand Mosque, even the little ones get caught up in the grandeur and allure of visiting this stunningly beautiful mosque. It truly is a city highlight and undoubtedly the best thing to do in Abu Dhabi, whether you’re a tourist or a resident.

When visiting the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, it is also worth visiting Wahat Al Karama, otherwise known as the Oasis of Dignity. This memorial was built to commemorate Emiratis killed in the line of duty. It offers some of the most stunning distant views of the mosque.

Mina Dhow Port and Fish Market

Mina Port is the historic harbor area of the city, where you can see traditional wooden dhows (sailing boats) and fishing baskets that local fishermen still use today. While the old fish market has been upgraded to a modern facility, the area retains its authentic atmosphere and remains a fascinating place to observe daily maritime life.

The port area is currently undergoing major infrastructure improvements, with plans to modernize the fruit and vegetable souk and relocate the carpet souk to new, enhanced facilities while preserving their traditional character..

The Galleria Mall*

Yes, it’s a shopping centre, but it’s also a cultural experience. The huge shopping centre includes the international brands that we’re all familiar with, but it also contains high-end luxury boutiques, amazing cafes and restaurants, rooftop parks and various indoor entertainment facilities.

For a completely different shopping experience, check out Madinat Zayed Mall. With its gold souq and fabric shops, this is quite the end of the scale, but, nonetheless, can bring a treasure trove of bargains for souvenir hunters!

Abu Dhabi Breakwater and Heritage Village*

Many cruise ship passengers will be bundled off to the Abu Dhabi Heritage Village, once Abu Dhabi’s main tourist attraction. The replica of a traditional Emirati fishing village includes houses, a mosque, traditional workshops, and agricultural buildings with live animals.

There is a cafe and a small souk where souvenirs can be purchased. The site feels dated (ie much less shiny than say Qasr al Hosn or Zayed National Museum), but it is still worth visiting to see how life has changed in the emirate over the years and to take stunning photos of the modern city opposite.

A lovely place to visit for an hour or two on a hot or wet day, the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation provides exhibition spaces to local artists. It is home to the beautiful Abu Dhabi Children’s Library.

Manarat Al Saadiyat*

The Manarat Al Saadiyat Arts Centre was the first building in the Saadiyat Cultural District and includes exhibition spaces and art and photography studios. The centre provides several workshops and special events throughout the year.

Al Qana*

This unique new waterfront development is not just architecturally beautiful; it has become a real foodies’ nighttime hot spot, very popular with locals. This is your place if you’d like an evening promenade and al fresco dining to soak in the modern Emirati atmosphere.

In addition to ample dining venues, you’ll find a very swish cinema, the National Aquarium (more below!), the Bridge health and wellness hub, Adrenark Adventure for indoor kids’ adrenaline activities, and Pixoul gaming centre for e-sports fans.

With tourism at the heart of the UAE’s offering, many spectacular entertainment offerings in Abu Dhabi will appeal to families and a broader audience of thrill seekers. These include:

The National Aquarium*

Opened in 2021, the National Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the Middle East and home to 46,000 animals. The thematically designed layout introduces visitors to different animals that live in different geographical areas. There are behind-the-scenes tours, the chance to feed fish, and the opportunity to get closer to the animals with various animal encounter packages.

Yas Waterworld*

Experience “water’s greatest play ground” at Yas Waterworld. This sprawling site has over 40 iconic rides, and it’s set to get even bigger as construction work commences on 15 new rides and attractions this summer. The park features areas for babies, toddlers and younger children, as well as two lazy rivers, a huge wave pool, a 4D Water Cinema and various slides and tubes of differing scariness!

An extension to the park has been announced, and construction is well underway for “The Lost City” which will add a further 18 rides and attractions to the park in 2025.

Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi

A great day out any time of year, this fully indoor theme park—the largest in the Middle East (it recently lost the title of the largest in the world!)—has something for everyone.

Whether you’re a Batman fan looking to meet the Dark Knight in person, seeking a thrilling ride through space with the Green Lantern, or fancy a leisurely log flume ride through Bedrock with the Flintstones, you will have a good time at this thoughtfully designed theme park.

A Harry Potter extension to the park has been announced, but no definitive time frame has been given yet. Details of what rides and attractions will be involved have not been released, but it’s sure to be epic once it arrives!

SeaWorld Abu Dhabi

The newest addition to Yas Island’s theme park scene, Seaworld is both a theme park and a marine conservation centre. Offering 8 different realms to explore, this is the perfect indoor activity for hot days, and it is especially good for younger children and those who like a more sedate theme park experience!

Ferrari World*

Featuring the world’s fastest roller coaster, the Formula Russo, and several other high-octane experiences, Ferrari World is the perfect place for adrenaline junkies.

Even if you don’t fancy some of the more intimidating rides, the park has many family-friendly aspects, including gentler rides and a soft play area. Christmas is an especially nice time to visit when the park goes all out for their Winterfest.

Ascend to dizzy heights at Clymb. Featuring the world’s biggest indoor skydiving flight chamber and the Middle East’s tallest climbing wall, Clymb is the ultimate experience for any thrill-seeker.

Yas Marina Circuit

Visiting town outside of Grand Prix season? Kids can enjoy testing out their driving skills at the Yas Marina Karting circuit. Special sessions are held for kids (5 to 7 years) and juniors (4 to 12 years). Adults can pay to borrow a racing car and test their skills.

There are also opportunities during the week to walk, jog, or cycle on open track nights organized by TrainYas and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council. These sessions are FREE to attend; you just need to register, and bikes can be hired if you’re just visiting.

Al Forsan International Sports Resort

A mixed sports venue found in Khalifa City (out on the airport side of town), this is a bit of a hidden gem for visitors. You’ll find here the opportunity to go wakeboarding, paintballing, archery, shooting, karting, and to an equestrian centre.

A Day At The Beach

Umm Al Emarat Park*

Whether you’re travelling as a couple or part of a large family group, a trip to Umm Al Emarat Park is highly recommended. The beautifully designed area features stunning fountains, flower gardens, and open areas for sport and relaxation.

There’s a specially designed children’s park with a splash pad, petting zoo, and several playgrounds dotted around the extensive space. Winter evenings bring a variety of recreational activities, including family movies on the big screen, craft activities, and markets. Get the Family Active at Hudayriat Island

New sports and leisure facilities – even a glamping site – have opened on Abu Dhabi’s Al Hudayriat Island. Joining the lineup of food trucks, cycling, and running tracks is Circuit X – BMX tracks, a high ropes course, an OCR Park Obstacle course, a new heritage walk, and even more sports facilities.

The newest attraction is Surf Abu Dhabi, the world’s largest artificial wave pool offering thrilling surfing experiences for all skill levels. After catching waves, visitors can relax at the beachside clubs and restaurants while enjoying stunning sunset views over the water.

Looking ahead, Abu Dhabi’s first indoor velodrome (cycling track) is expected to open later in 2026, adding another exciting sporting venue to the island.

Saadiyat Island

If it is the tranquillity of real waves you are after, you can’t go past the selection of Saadiyat luxury resorts that line the shores of the Arabian Gulf. Each offers residents and tourists alike a luxurious getaway only minutes from the city. You’ll find that each has multiple pools, kids’ clubs, dining, and, of course, direct access to the stunning beach.

Yas Island

Yas Plaza contains a plethora of well-appointed, budget-friendly 4 and 5* hotels, including the Yas Island Rotana, Centro, The Crowne Plaza, the Radisson Blu and the Park Inn. Guests staying at these hotels receive complimentary passes to the nearby Yas Beach Club and often receive theme park tickets as part of their booking deal.

Just around the corner at the newer Yas Bay development is the more luxurious, Hilton Yas Bay, with its extensive pool area and adjacent Cafe Del Mar Beach Club. An Abu Dhabi Desert Safari

The easiest way to get out into the desert is to take a desert safari from your city hotel. Such safaris take you to a nice spot of dunes, where you can experience a variety of activities, including sand surfing and dune bashing. There is often an Arabic-style barbecue and entertainment in the form of belly dancers, a tanoura dancer, or an oud player. The experience usually lasts 5 or 6 hours in total.

Arabian Nights Village

A charming desert retreat. It is possible to visit the village for the evening or stay overnight. Overnight visitors can choose from 3 accommodation styles. Places to Visit in Al Ain – The Oasis City

If you have yet to explore the Oasis City, get this one on your bucket list for this winter!

Most families in Abu Dhabi have probably made it to the Al Ain Zoo at some point – if you’ve not been in a while definitely worth a re-visit as they’re making improvements all the time. The Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre is also one of the best educational displays you’ll find in the UAE. The tickets still remain amazingly good value!

Elsewhere in Al Ain, you may want to include on your sightseeing list:

• Take a stroll through the historic Al Ain Oasis and hunt out the other UNESCO World Heritage Sites spotted across the city, including Hili Archaelogical Park.

• Make the mountain drive up to Jebel Hafeet and enjoy far-reaching views of the UAE and Oman.

• Visit the Jebel Hafeet Desert Park and explore the 5000-year-old beehive tombs and stay in the unique bubble dome tents.

• Explore the many museums of Al Ain, including the Palace Museum, Qasr al Muwaiji & Al Jahili Fort.

• Drive through the Al Ain Camel Market – the only one of its kind left in the UAE! And experience the local hum of the city with an evening at Souq Al Qattara in the winter (Thursday to Saturday).

Al Wathba

On the way to Al Ain, you will pass through the area of Al Wathba, home to several interesting natural sites. These include:

• The Al Wathba Wetland Reserve—Open only during the cooler months, the wetland reserve provides a home for 250 species of birds, including the Greater Flamingo, 37 plant species, and a diverse range of aquatic life.
• The Al Wathba Salt Lake – Azure waters and salty white mounds make this a very photogenic spot.
• The Fossil Dunes – Impressive rock formations carved by the desert winds.

NB: These three Al Wathba sites aren’t always open to the public. They have recently become Instagram-famous, which inevitably attracts inconsiderate tourism. Therefore, ongoing work is being done to establish proper tourism infrastructure while preserving the natural beauty and ecosystems.

Whilst in the Al Wathba area, a seasonal must is the Sheikh Zayed Festival, held from November to February. Another often-overlooked destination in Al Wathba is Al Sadeem Astronomy, which offers observatory night tours and stargazing experiences.

Should You Still Visit Abu Dhabi in the Peak of Summer? Local Tips For Battling the Heat & Having a Great Summer Trip to the UAE Capital

Abu Dhabi gets hot in the summer. Really hot. We’re talking up to 50°C (122°F). But is it still worth planning a stopover or even a longer holiday in Abu Dhabi over the hot summer months?

Yes, it’s going to be sweaty hot, but it’s also a city built to deal with the extreme temperatures. A summer stopover, or even a longer stay in Abu Dhabi in July and August, might not be as unbearable as you think.

In this article, we take an in-depth look at what you can expect from Abu Dhabi in Summer, from exactly how hot and uncomfortable it gets to what attractions and activities remain open and accessible even in the hottest summer months.

Abu Dhabi Summer Temperatures – How Hot Does it Get?

While summer averages are reported at 45°C (113°F), it is quite typical to experience daytime maximums up to 50°C (122°F). The hottest month of the year in Abu Dhabi is August.

When is summer in Abu Dhabi? “Summer” weather in Abu Dhabi realistically runs from late May until mid-October.

Exactly how hot is Abu Dhabi?  Check out this chart for Abu Dhabi’s average reported monthly temperatures ⁽¹⁾ .

How hot you feel and the temperatures that are actually reported can be two different things. You need to take into account not only the temperature but also the humidity. It helps if you have a weather app that gives you the “feels like” temperature as well!

Surprisingly for many, the humidity does get very high in Abu Dhabi and tends to be more noticeable in the latter half of summer, particularly in August and September.

Pools can be a refreshing antidote to the Abu Dhabi heat, however, the same cannot be said for the ocean!  You must be mindful that the salty waters of the Gulf can be too hot for swimming in over the summer (reaching up to 32-35°C/90-95°F); it will feel more like spa water than a chance to cool down.

And if it isn’t obvious, the sand becomes excruciatingly hot in the summer. It only takes burning sand to become trapped in your sandals or flip-flops once for you to work this out, let alone if you dare walk on it barefoot!

Dressing For The Heat in Abu Dhabi

Whilst air conditioning makes indoor spaces comfortable, it’s important to dress for the heat as some outdoor time in Abu Dhabi is unavoidable – even if it’s just walking from your hotel lobby to a taxi.

We recommend loose-fitting cotton or linen clothing for both men and women throughout the summer. A wide-brimmed sun hat and shirt or dress with a collar would also be good items to add to your packing list. As well as dressing for the heat, it’s important to dress appropriately and respect cultural etiquette:

• Tourists must note the difference between “resort wear” and what should be worn publicly. Although this seems to have relaxed over the years (maybe a little too much?), as a sign of respect, skimpy clothing and bathers should be worn only to the pool and beach.
• When walking through hotel public areas, on public transport, in malls and restaurants, you should ALWAYS dress respectfully for the Muslim country you are in. At a minimum, both ladies and gents should cover their knees and shoulders and wear nothing too clingy or revealing. You will see many people flaunting this “rule”, but it doesn’t go down well with the local community, including its expat residents.

Another thing to note is that temperature drops between outside and indoor air conditioning can be extreme. Make no mistake, you will still want to pack a wrap or cardigan for those indoor blasts of cold even during the hottest months!

Abu Dhabi Summer Attractions 2024

Even in the heat of summer, there’s loads to do in Abu Dhabi, we recommend:

• Visit the Sheikh Zayed Mosque early in the morning or later in the evening. Much of the site is underground and air-conditioned. The outdoor porticoes are cool and shaded but there are some fully outdoor elements.

• Explore the Louvre – Culture vultures will love this modern building with its sampler collection of artifacts from all over the world. There’s even a children’s museum for younger explorers.

• Be amazed at Qatar Al Watan – The UAE’s stunning Presidential Palace is largely indoors. Golf Buggies are available to transfer you from your car to the main entrance building, and you’ll be shuttled inside the venue by a luxury coach.

• Discover Qasr Al Hosn, the city’s historic heart. Most of the site is indoors, although some rooms are accessed via shaded outdoor porticoes and an outdoor courtyard. It’s a great place to visit late afternoon. We recommend teaming up your visit with the adjacent House of the Artisans for a peek into traditional crafts and the Emirati way of life.

• Visit Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation – an interesting building containing a variety of exhibitions, theatre spaces and a beautiful children’s library.

• Check out what’s on at the Etihad Arena! Whether it’s a musical like The Lion King or Matilda or a band like Coldplay or Westlife, this is the Abu Dhabi venue for big-name entertainment in Yas Bay.

• Discover an underwater world at the National Aquarium – the biggest aquarium in the Middle East is home to 46,000 animals. Located in the Al Qana complex, the aquarium is close to other family attractions, including the Adrenark Adventure Park and Pixoul Gaming which are both fantastic if you’re visiting with children or teenagers.

• Have fun at Warner Brother’s World – A world-class indoor theme park with around 30 rides and attractions. Whether you want to talk about fighting crime with Batman or enjoy a log flume ride through Bedrock, Warner Brother’s World is the place to be.

• Boost your adrenaline levels at Ferrari World – Home to the fastest roller coaster in the world! Much of Ferrari World is indoors. You wont even notice the heat as you zoom through the outdoor air on Formula Russo or Flying Aces!

• The brand new SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is another fantastic indoor venue with rides and amusements as well as marine exhibits. For a truly chilly experience, step into the Antractica realm, kept at a chilly 1C! .

• If you really can’t stand the heat, head into temperatures of 2°C at Snow Abu Dhabi. This indoor, winter-themed park for all ages on Reem Island, is a great place to enjoy some family time.

Can You Still Enjoy Outdoor Activities in the Abu Dhabi Summer?

People live in Abu Dhabi all year round, and whilst they may be more used to the summer heat, many outdoor activities are still manageable for tourists.

Some outdoor attractions (including some beach clubs) close over the summer whilst others have reduced hours. Some days are obviously hotter than others and looking at the forecast can help you to plan accordingly.

You should take note of how your body feels on particular days. Whilst a morning may start off ‘cool’ or, at least a ‘comfortable’ temperature, it is recommended that you take to the shade (preferably indoors) between at least 11am and 3pm throughout the summer months.

Here are some of our summer outdoor suggestions:

• Visit Umm Al Emarat Park after sunset. Yes, it’ll still be hot and sticky (especially in August), but the beautifully lit fountains and children’s splash park make this a great place to spend some outdoor time in summer. There are also several air-conditioned indoor restaurants onsite to give you some chilly respite.

• Take an early morning or late afternoon swim. Most hotels have pools that are open until late, but beaches usually close at sunset. We recommend sitting in the shade when you are not in the water.

• Visit Yas Water World, one of the region’s best water parks. We recommend water shoes to protect your feet on the hot footpaths, a UV suit or rash vest, a sun hat, and plenty of high-factor sunblock (see our complete guide on what to pack for an Abu Dhabi trip here). There are shaded areas for babies and toddlers, plenty of umbrellas, and some indoor air-conditioned areas for respite.

• Visit a public park early in the morning (before 7am, if possible). While larger gated parks may be closed until later in the day, many smaller playgrounds and public promenades are open 24 hours. An early morning stroll along the Corniche or Yas Bay Waterfront can help relieve any notions of cabin fever!

• Perhaps take an evening desert safari. Desert safaris do still operate in the summer. You are largely in an air-conditioned vehicle. Once you reach the camp area, it is usually cool enough to enjoy the various activities, albeit sweaty. If you’re going to partake in any outdoor activities in Abu Dhabi during the summer you need to ensure you are properly hydrated. Carrying a water bottle is a must. If you’ll be driving and have your own hire car, carry plenty of water and an umbrella to protect you from the sun, you never know when you may break down.

The Galleria also offers a number of children’s play centres, a cinema, and several licensed bars along its waterside promenade.

• Another 5-star hotel with direct access to the Galleria Mall is the Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi. Like the Rosewood, it has great spa facilities, an excellent breakfast buffet, an outdoor pool terrace, and views across the city.

• Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas—This beautiful hotel and villa complex has several pools, including an adults-only shaded pool on Saadiyat Island. While there is a kid section, we’d say of all the Saadiyat resorts, this is a top pick for couples.
• Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas—This slightly more affordable choice on Saadiyat Island has a large pool, just a hop, skip, and jump from your hotel room. It is a favourite for families in the summer, and there are kids’ club options, too.
• Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island – A lovely pool area and a shaded kids’ splash area very close to the hotel’s main restaurant and easy access to off-site dining.
• Crown Plaza Yas Island – A more budget-friendly option with a decent pool on a terrace overlooking the sea (look for Stay and Play packages with the Yas Theme Parks).
• Radisson Blu, Yas Island – Another good budget choice on Yas Island, with a big chilled pool set just off the hotel lobby, which remains well-shaded most of the day. They also offer Yas Stay and Play package options along with a big indoor kids’ play area adjacent to the pool.
• A number of hotel resort complexes also offer villas with private pools, which can be an excellent choice for a summer retreat.
