Mother’s Day in Abu Dhabi 2023: Don’t Forget Your Mum This Mother’s Day

by Lynette Fortey-Burnett

Whilst we should make time throughout the year to show our mums how much we appreciate them, Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to do something really special for your mum to show her how much you love her.

The UAE officially celebrates Mother’s Day On March 21st every year. This year Mother’s Day falls on a Tuesday, so many people may choose to celebrate either the weekend before or the weekend after.

Many expats in Abu Dhabi celebrate their own official Mother’s Day as well, or instead of the UAE’s official day dedicated to mothers.

  • For the United Kingdom, Mother’s Day always falls on the 4th Sunday of lent. This year (2023), it will be celebrated on March 19th, which roughly coincides with Mother’s Day in the UAE.
  • For many countries (including the US, Canada, Australia, India, and the Philippines – primary expat populations in the UAE), Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May – this year (2023), it will be marked on May 15th.

If you and your mum are in Abu Dhabi at this time, there are simply loads of lovely things that you can do for, or even better with, your mother to show her how much you appreciate her.

Mother’s Day in Abu Dhabi: Take Her For Afternoon Tea

Mother’s Day Dates in Abu Dhabi & the UAE

Note that this year, UAE Mother’s Day falls immediately prior to the commencement of Ramadan 1444, the Holy Month on the Hijri calendar.

For the next few years, it will fall within Ramadan. This will impact daytime food service and available specials – they will no doubt still be available, but possibly you’ll need to wait until evenings to celebrate this special day with your mother.
