Here’s a high-level overview of what you can expect to find at each:

Yas Waterworld

Voted as the Middle East’s leading water park for the past four years^(1), this Emirati-themed water park includes a sensational 40+ rides and attractions. We love that it caters to all age groups, from tots with covered play areas and slides to some serious adrenaline-pumping rides.

There are water park favourites to be found, from the wave pool to the lazy river with several slides and rides unique to Yas Waterworld. Thrill-seekers will love the Slithers Slides, the Sebag racing lanes, Jebel Drop, and a straight drop down in the Liwa Loop.

There are family and group rides, too, like the Falcons Falaj and Dawamma, the world’s largest tornado water coaster! Don’t miss the 5D Cinesplash show to top off your water-based experience – ideal whatever the season, even in the peak of Abu Dhabi summer, it’s bearable in the water!

NB do expect Yas Waterworld to close temporarily for 2-4 weeks for annual maintenance in January/February.

Ferrari World

Home to some of the most thrilling rides in the world – including the World’s Fastest Roller Coaster, Formula Rossa and the highest rollercoaster loop on Flying Aces – this is where the adrenaline junkies are headed.

It’s a great place to enjoy endless hours of rollercoaster fun and simulator experiences, as well as live shows and plenty of themed dining options.

Since opening in 2010, the lineup has included additional adrenaline activities, including a rooftop walk and a zipline experience (additional costs apply).

The park was extended in 2020 to include a Family Zone, making Ferrari World accessible to a much wider age group. Several replica rides are made just for children under 1.2 metres tall, so they are no longer left out on thrills (but we’d still argue this park is better suited to your tweens/teens+).

Everything is, of course, Ferrari-themed in this entirely indoor action theme park, attached to the Yas Mall complex in the centre of the island.

Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi

Boasting 29 rides, attractions, and entertaining shows, this entirely indoor theme park is the largest in the Middle East region, but no longer the largest in the World! It is an absolute family crowd-pleaser.

You will find cartoon favourites from your childhood, from the Jetsons to the Flintstones and Scooby-Doo to DC comic book heroes wandering the streets of Metropolis and Gotham City.

Throughout the day, you can grab autographs and photo ops with your favourite characters, see live performances, and enjoy endless rides as the park remains largely crowd—and queue-free.

Warner Bros will best suit kids 4 years or older or over 1.1 metres tall, though there are a handful of attractions little ones can enjoy.

SeaWorld Yas Island

The region’s first marine life theme park (oddly not built next to the Gulf or any waterway surrounding the city) opened its doors to the public in Spring 2023.

Explore eight exciting realms from the Arctic to the tropics in this immersive theme park experience telling the story of “One Ocean” that connects us all. You’ll find over 100 animal experiences, presentations, up-close animal encounters, and expeditions.

The centrepiece is the world’s largest aquarium tank, which towers over five floors and holds an incredible 58 million litres of water.

SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is home to over 15 interactive experiences and rides, more than 20 live characters and performances, 17 dining options, 13 retail outlets, and roaming entertainment across all realms.

Open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, this fabulous new theme park has something for all ages to enjoy, from the tiniest tots to thrill-seekers (though note that the emphasis is not on the rides). If you’re travelling to Abu Dhabi with toddlers, this should be your first choice.

Disney Abu Dhabi

Hot off the press is the news that Disney has partnered with local developer Miral to bring its seventh International Disney resort to Yas Island.

The when and what is still at the ‘imagineering’ stage, but you can expect it to be at least 2030 when doors open. Which themed lands and what the resort will look like is still a distant dream in 2025, but it is well worth getting on your UAE bucket list in the future!

Motor Sports on Yas Island

The first integral part of Yas Island that opened was the Yas Marina Circuit (YMC).

Abu Dhabi’s YMC has been hosting the season-closing Grand Prix since 2009. It’s always a spectacular event for the city with a huge party atmosphere; it’s the biggest annual event hosted on Yas Island and in the Abu Dhabi Emirate.

Attracting tens of thousands of international visitors each year in December, it’s truly an event no motorsports fan will want to miss.

Other Experiences at Yas Marina Circuit

Outside of Grand Prix season, plenty still takes place at the track year-round and ways you can get involved, even test your motoring skills. For just a taster, we suggest:

• Our favourite way to simply experience the Grand Prix track is to take part in TrainYas.  Entry to the track is free every Monday and Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. You can cycle, jog or walk, with some free bikes being provided, first-come-first-served. Bring your own or pay a little more for a better-quality hire bike.

• Test your own driving skills; you can do a lap of the track with Formula 3000 Driving Experiences (over 18s and need to be between 160cm and 188cm).

• If you’re after something for the slightly younger ones or not quite ready for the full track experience, try the Yas Marina KartZone at Yas Central? Not quite GP level but definitely enough to get your heart pumping.

• Even more sedate? Then try a behind-the-scenes tour of Yas Marina Circuit will certainly pique your interest if you’re travelling out of season.

What Other Attractions Are on Yas Island?

Now, let’s look beyond the race track and theme park to see why it’s worth staying on Yas Island for far more leisure and entertainment.

Yas Bay

The new kid on the block opened in December 2021 and has brought a whole new array of dining and nightlife options to Abu Dhabi. Yas Bay waterfront offers over a dozen dining venues, including Café Del Mar Beach Club and the state-of-the-art multi-purpose venue Etihad Arena – see the lineup of events here.

They’ve also begun construction on two new beachfront parks designed for families and adults. This will undoubtedly be a great addition to this top city attraction (this does mean at present there’s some fairly unsightly hoarding erected along the waterfront, significantly impacting the area’s aesthetic).

Yas Bay is still absolutely worth a stop on your itinerary, especially if your trip aligns with a show at the arena. Families should check out Central for some of the city’s best family dining, and plentiful other venues offering casual to fine dining. EL&N London is popular with the Instagram crowd, while Paradiso is known for its casual weekend brunches.

Yas Marina

Nestled amongst the race track, you will find the exclusive Yas Marina. Not only berths for luxury yachts, but plenty of dining and nightlife options can also be found here.

A popular launch spot for cruises and private charter yachts, it’s a real hub of activity on evenings and weekends with al fresco dining options as far into the summer as they can manage!

The main event of the winter is, of course, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which will take place from 4-7 December this winter.

Yas Links

This 18-hole links golf course can be found between the hotel plaza and the theme parks. With a spectacular waterfront setting, Yas Links is the new home to the European Tour HSBC Golf Championships, which are now held in November.

Villa Sélène restaurant (replacing Hickory’s) brings a touch of the Mediterranean to Abu Dhabi, and with access to the rolling lawn area, it makes for a great family day out. This is accompanied by the relatively new Crafty Fox Tapas & Sports Bar (adults only), and a 9-hole par three-course if you’re short on time.

Yas Acres Golf & Country Club

The latest entertainment addition to Yas Island, the Yas Acres Golf and Country Club offers visitors sporting opportunities and fabulous new leisure facilities, including padel courts and a lap pool, alongside several new restaurants joining the Abu Dhabi dining scene.

Yas Beach

Often rated as one of the best beaches in Abu Dhabi for its extensive facilities, the inland beachfront provides the perfect spot to relax in the sun.

Free to guests staying at any Yas hotel, it can easily be accessed by shuttle bus from key locations around the island. Day guests can also pay for using the facilities of Yas Beach, or even book private cabanas.

CLYMB Abu Dhabi

Proudly holding the title of the largest indoor sky diving chamber in the world and home to the world’s tallest indoor climbing wall, SUMMYT, CYLMB Abu Dhabi is a real treat for adrenaline junkies and visitors who like to stay active even over the summer months.

Parks and Recreation on Yas Island

In addition to the open night at the track, several spots around the park have been designed for recreation.

• Yas Gateway Parks (North & South) are set aside for Grand Prix parking just once a year. For the remaining 51 weeks, they’re open park venues with play park facilities, BBQs and sports tracks.

• You’ll find The Waves and The Sands recreation areas close to Yas Bay, including a skatepark, sports courts, grassed areas and a waterfront promenade.

• West Yas Community Park is another beautiful community playground, including a skate park.

Shopping, Dining & Entertainment at Yas Mall

Last but not least, Yas Mall is located at the very centre of the island. Abu Dhabi and the UAE certainly know how to do shopping malls and indoor entertainment, and Yas Mall is no exception.

With 370 stores, from hypermarkets to high-end luxury boutiques, shopping abounds. There’s also plenty of indoor entertainment here, particularly for families, with a vast VOX cinema, Fun Works, Kidzania Abu Dhabi, AirManiax, and a Pop in & Play LEGO centre.

Some newer attractions for your older kids include Man City Challenge and NIGMA Galaxy for your e-gamers in the freshly opened Sporting Boulevard. As we mentioned earlier, Ferrari World and CLYMB Abu Dhabi are also attached to this end of the mall, making it a brilliant indoor venue in Abu Dhabi.

Dining is a big deal here, too; it is home to Black Tap, Cheesecake Factory, Rainforest Cafe, Al Fanar, and P.F. Chang’s, to name but a few. In addition to your traditional fast food court, the Yas Food Hall is packed with international cuisines and unique dining concepts, a must for foodies seeking something new.

(NB, Restaurants in Yas Mall are not licensed to serve alcohol, but Yas Marina and Yas Bay are, as well as all the hotels)

How to Get to Yas Island and the Yas Theme Parks

There are a few ways to get to Yas Island, depending on where you’re setting out from:

Dubai to Yas Island

Yas Island is around a 50 to 90-minute journey from Dubai, depending on your starting point.

Free Yas Express shuttle

If you hold theme park tickets to any Yas theme parks, you can take your place on board a free daily shuttle service from Dubai.

The two daily services depart at 11:00 AM from

• Y6 Route Deira City Centre (entrance beside Aloft Hotel) – Journey time approximately 2 hours
• Y7 Route Ibn Battuta Mall (entrance beside Aloft Hotel) – Journey time approximately 1 hour, 20 minutes

The return buses leave from Ferrari World, then make a pick-up at WB World/Yas Waterworld 10 minutes later:

• Y6 Route back to Deira City Centre 8:00 PM
• Y7 Route back to Ibn Battuta Mall 7:30 PM

Public Bus from Dubai to Yas Island

If you are solely dependent on public transport, you can take a combination of Metro and buses from Dubai to Yas Island. 

• First, get yourself to Ibn Battuta on the red line metro.
• The intercity bus Route 101 from Ibn Battuta Bus Station to Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station (Al Wadha) leaves every 30 minutes and takes around 1 hour and 40 minutes. This costs 25 AED per person, payable on Nol.
• From Al Wadha, take the Abu Dhabi Bus Route 190 to Yas Island, which departs hourly. This costs 6 AED per person; you will need a local Abu Dhabi transport card, Hafilat, not Nol.

Taxies and Transfer Services to Yas Island

If Dubai’s public and shared transport options don’t work with your schedule, consider taking a taxi or hiring a driving service—some can even include your theme park tickets!

• Depending on where you set out from, a metered taxi from Dubai to Yas Island can cost around AED 250.
• This private driver option from Dubai includes your entry tickets to your choice of theme park
• This transfer service includes a full-day tour of Abu Dhabi before visiting Ferrari World

Self Drive & Park on Yas Island

Do you have your own wheels, or are you happy to hire a car? Driving is the easiest way to get to Yas Island. Free parking is available at all the theme parks and venues we’ve listed here.

• WB World has a multi-deck car park, but it’s a bit of a hike to the entrance. If you are also visiting Yas Waterworld, we suggest following the parking signs for Yas Waterworld, and you can easily zip between the two theme parks on foot.

• For Ferrari World and CLYMB, you can park in any of the Yas Mall car parks, like for signs to the dedicated Ferrari World parking for the closest spots.

• If you visit other parts of Yas Island, you will have no problems self-parking at Yas Bay. There are plenty of free public parking spots available at The Waterfront, undercover car parks 1 and 2, and the new multi-deck Yas Bay P2 Parking. (Do be mindful if there are any large events at Etihad Arena; they may put you in overflow parking much further away to ease traffic congestion. Undercover parking will be restricted to VIP ticket holders only.)

• Likewise, for the Grand Prix, you can only self-park near the venue if you have arranged parking with your Grand Prix tickets. Most patrons park in Yas Gateway parks North and South and then take a shuttle into the venue.

Getting Around Yas Island

Getting around Yas Island is easy for guests without their own vehicles with complimentary shuttle services. Five Abu Dhabi routes run between key locations, including the hotels, Yas Bay, Yas Marina, Yas Mall, and the theme parks.

How to get to Yas Island by bus from Abu Dhabi

Just as above, from Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station, you can catch the 190, which will loop around Saadiyat Island and drop you to the front of Ferrari World.

If you are coming from the Airport, local bus service A19 leaves once an hour and stops at Ferrari World/Yas Mall and Yas Waterworld.

Alternatively, a taxi is an easy way to get a group there. You are looking at AED 45 coming straight from the AUH airport (as there is an AED 25 airport taxi flag fall) or approximately AED 60-80 coming from the Corniche. We recommend you book your AD taxi using the Yango App.

Al Raha Beach to Yas Island – Yas Bay Water Taxi

A water taxi service has been launched for visitors to Yas Island from the nearby Al Raha Beach neighbourhoods.

In the spring of 2022, Yellow Boats ran the initial pilot stage, which was later replaced in late 2022 by a water taxi operated by Abu Dhabi Maritime.

This new water taxi service now has stops at Al Bandar, Al Muneera, and Al Zeina (every hour), with a separate service connecting Yas Marina and Waters Edge (every 2 hours). Services run from 4:00 PM on weekdays and 3:30 PM on weekends.

You can now check timetables and advance book online, or use the AMDT Al Nalia App (AED 10 for a one-way trip, Kids AED 5, or AED 20 for a return trip.

Where to Stay on Yas Island

Yas Island offers visitors a great range of hotels to suit budgets across several key locations. These are all connected by the Yas Express shuttle bus service, free to guests on the island.

There is a main hotel plaza within walking distance of the Grand Prix track, then three standalone hotels at key locations; these are:

• The WB Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton – this hotel is ideal for theme park fans visiting Yas Island. It is situated immediately between Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld. Offering a pool and themed Sidekicks restaurant as well as suite rooms for larger families, you’re in for a real treat. • Hilton Abu Dhabi, Yas Island – with a commanding view over Yas Bay, this 5-star offering will put you right in the centre of the action for Yas with a great pool and plenty of dining and entertainment options right on your doorstep.

• W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island – (previously known as the Yas Viceroy and then Yas Hotel) is a unique hotel for the city, sitting straddled over the Grand Prix track. It offers sensational race track and marina views with a swanky rooftop pool, one of the city’s coolest hotel offerings.

Yas Plaza Hotels

The original Yas Plaza hotels were built alongside the Yas Marina Circuit construction, so they’re a little older than the shiny new offerings. Nonetheless, they offer excellent accommodation with several budget choices that allow access to the other hotels’ great facilities.

All Yas Hotels come with complimentary access to Yas Beach Club.

When considering where to stay in Abu Dhabi, keep in mind that frequent theme park deals are often available with your hotel booking. The WB Hotel automatically includes your theme park tickets; at other Yas hotels, it would be an optional extra to consider, giving you reduced-priced tickets.

Touring Abu Dhabi Beyond Yas Island

Abu Dhabi is a very spread-out city over a series of islands. You’ll find Zayed International Airport on the “mainland”, and then bridges seamlessly connect the main Abu Dhabi Island and outlying islands.

Yas Island may not be considered “central”, but it is still a great place to base yourself for exploring more of Abu Dhabi. You can use the Visit Abu Dhabi shuttle bus from Yas to explore further attractions around the city, such as:

• The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
• Louvre Abu Dhabi
• Qasr al Watan

If you’re looking for luxurious fun in the sun, then Abu Dhabi has you well looked after, with 30+ beach clubs and pool resorts across the city.

This post will take you through our 16 Favourite Abu Dhabi Beach Clubs in 2026.

Most of Abu Dhabi’s glorious beach clubs are connected to luxury resort hotels, but there are a number of stand-alone beach club facilities, too, ranging from luxury beach loungers with refreshment services to full club facilities, including swimming pools, Jacuzzis, and gyms.

Day pass prices vary significantly; signing up for an overnight package for the best value is often cheaper. Beach club passes in Abu Dhabi are usually significantly more on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) than on weekdays, so nab yourself a bargain by coming mid-week or join the party crowd on the weekend.

Another option if you are longer-term in Abu Dhabi is to nab yourself a Privilee Membership which grants you multiple access to many of the city’s best beach clubs (and in Dubai too), plus discounts on food and beverages. We highlight below those clubs that participate in Privilee.

1. Saadiyat Beach Club

2. Cafe Del Mar

Cafe Del Mar on Yas Island has everything that you could expect from a beach club (except a natural sandy beach!) The landscaped pool area features sand and water views, but there is no direct access to the sea. Despite this, Cafe Del Mar has real beach club vibes and has made a name for itself as one of the hottest places to be seen. 

Affiliated to the Hilton Abu Dhabi, Yas Bay, Cafe Del Mar boasts an excellent restaurant and a poolside bar serving up all manner of delicious cocktails. 

Modelled on the Ibizan beach club of the same name, one of the main draws to Cafe Del Mar is the music, but the combination of music, setting, and chilled-out vibes makes this beach-less beach club a great place to relax with friends…And the best thing about it is that on weekdays, Ladies can access the club for free! 

Open Daily from 10:00 am until 11:00 pm (12 midnight on Saturdays and Sundays).

3. Nation Riviera Beach Club

Sitting along the city’s Corniche beachfront, Nation Riviera occupies its own 200m stretch of private beach. With a distinctively Mediterranean feel, it is part of the 5* St. Regis Abu Dhabi hotel in Nation Towers, attached via a luxurious underground tunnel to take you safely under the Corniche Road.

4. Yas Beach

Located on the soft white sands of Yas Island, Yas Beach offers stunning mangrove views in a hip and relaxed beachfront setting with water sports on offer, dining options, and simple relaxation. There is also a family swimming pool flanked by cabanas on offer, along with five luxurious beachfront chalets for rent if you like a cool escape during your day at the beach.

Yas Beach Club is equally popular with the family crowd as it is with singles and couples, though weekends at the infinity pool are reserved for adults only.

There’s plenty on offer nearby for water sports lovers, from kayaking to windsurfing, sailing, paddle boarding, and great beach volleyball facilities. Meanwhile, kids can enjoy an activity centre and a kids’ splash pool.

The grown-ups are well taken care of in the refreshments department with The Hops Bar, Tiki Bar, Mixed Drinks Bar, and The Lounge – all open from morning to the early hours who want to kick on from their day at the beach well into the evening.

This is one of the most incredible beach resorts in Abu Dhabi, and we’d argue in the world! It’s certainly worth the splurge if your budget permits; you won’t regret it!

6. Bayshore Beach Club

This Al Bateen beachfront has become somewhat overlooked in recent years as flashy alternatives open nearby and on Saadiyat Island. However, it is still very worthy of a mention as a great all-rounder beach club with a superbly relaxed setting in one of Abu Dhabi’s classic hotels, the InterContinental Abu Dhabi.

The main features include a 300-meter-long sand beach, an infinity pool with a swim-up bar, a children’s pool with a spa, and a jacuzzi and spa in a wonderful garden setting.

Situated on Fahid Island (accessible by road), a little-known gem between Yas Island and Saadiyat Island, this newcomer is a seasonal offering for the cooler winter months. Offering boho vibes and a fully redeemable entry fee starting from AED 150 (closed in summer)

9. West Bay Beach Club

Located at the western end of the Corniche, just before the marina Breakwater, you will find the extensive facilities of West Bay Beach Club (attached to the Radisson Blu Hotel, formally known as the Hiltonia, then the Blu Beach Club, then the Cove at West Bay – we think the name has settled as at September 2021!).

One of Abu Dhabi’s original hotel beach clubs, dating back decades, it’s had many facelifts over the years! West Bay brings a fun new vibe from the beach resort to the spa, fitness club, water sports, and Mediterranean dining.

This large beach club spans 12,000 sq ft of lush grounds; expect a wave pool, water slides, kids’ and adults’ pools, a swim-up bar, play areas, and plenty of activities. Weekends include a relaxed beach brunch.

10. Shangri-La Beach Club

It is one of the smaller and lesser-known beach clubs of Abu Dhabi, but also, for this reason, one of the more peaceful. The small beachfrontage at the Shangri-La Qayrat al Beri overlooks the Grand Canal and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, providing one of the city’s best sunset views.

Sadly, development in front of the mosque has obscured the view slightly, but it’s still a wonderful place to spend a lazy day at the beach.

There’s also an infinity pool to enjoy, the Spa CHI and plenty of spots to grab a drink or a bite – with deals including Food and Beverage vouchers.

Whilst the beachfrontage at the Fairmont Bab al Bahr isn’t huge, it does provide one of the city’s longest temperature-controlled swimming pools. Flanked by cabanas, sunbeds, and palm trees, there’s plenty of room for relaxation, along with a kids’ splash pool and jacuzzi.

Look out for their 36-hour weekend packages, including brunch, stay, and complete use of all the hotel’s pool and beach club facilities.

This is a real surprise packet sitting in the Al Ras al Akhdar corner of the city, across the road from the Emirates Palace. Formerly known as Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, same deal, different name.

The Conrad Daycation Packages offer outside guests complete access to their beachfrontage looking towards Al Bateen as well as access to their three hotel pools.

Another way to enjoy the pool and beach here is to join the popular Saturday brunch at Nahaam.

13. Eden Health Club and Spa – Le Meridien

This oldie but a goldie in al Zahiyah (Tourist Club Area) of Abu Dhabi has been a stalwart of entertainment and relaxation in the city for decades. The hotel itself, Le Meridien Abu Dhabi, has recently gone through some major upgrade work, and the leisure club continues to deliver as one of the best value options in the city.

The health club facilities include Hamman pools, an aquamedics pool, tennis, squash and volleyball courts, a fitness centre, a private beach and a pool.

Although it is certainly not as fancy and modern as most of the others we have listed here, Eden Health Club and Spa does provide patrons with the perfect place for a wonderful urban oasis at a very affordable rate.

14. Mamsha Beach, Saadiyat

Formerly known as Soul Beach, Mamsha Beach is set on a ‘public beach’. There is no pool, and the facilities are somewhat limited, but its prime location makes it well worth including on this list.

Situated within the Mamsha Al Saadiyat community, at the heart of Saadiyat Island’s Cultural District, Soul Beach is a wonderfully pristine 1km stretch of white sandy beach offering uninterrupted views of the Arabian Gulf.

Mamsha Beach includes a lifeguard-patrolled 400m strip of swimming beach and 400 parasol-covered sunbeds. Refreshments are available to order by WhatsApp and are delivered to your sunbed by golf buggy.

Please note that you need your own towel and toiletries for the showers. The beach is open from 7:00 a.m. until sunset.

We won’t lie; this one feels pricey for what it is. A shame they couldn’t have opened a more affordable family location here, but they always seem to be full at weekends, so obviously some are willing to pay for what they offer.

15. Kai Beach

Kai Beach is also affiliated with Saadiyat Beach Club. The advertising tagline for this beach is ‘Barefoot Luxury,’ and boy, does it deliver!

The elegant parasols and driftwood furniture give the beach a bohemian feel, while its slightly more secluded location allows visitors to be just that bit closer to nature.

There are sun beds and umbrellas, toilets, showers, and changing rooms, which are accessible via boardwalks behind the dunes at the top of the beach. The MLT food truck offers delicious bites and a variety of beverages, including alcohol. Shisha is also available and can be ordered to your sunbed.

Open 7:00 am until sunset.

16. Al Maya Island

Another hidden island beach getaway, Al Maya is where you go to relax during the week and party on the weekend!

A 10-minute boat trip takes you to the chilled-out island resort. Live entertainment, DJs, and pool parties make Al Maya stand out for fun-loving crowds, especially on Saturdays, which are strictly for people aged 21 and over.

During the week, however, the island is a great place for families to pass their time. Most visitors to the island book a day pass, but it is possible to stay overnight.

Soho Beach Yas Island

A brand-new addition opened in April 2025. This new Yas hotspot (adjacent to Yas Beach Club) is open only on Fridays to Sundays, 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM, but it is already proving popular with the beachside party crowd. Laid-back Luxury is the vibe with stylish day beds and the promise of barefoot dancing alongside tempting Mediterranean Cuisine.

• Entry is free for ladies and couples, but there is a minimum spend of 250 AED for sun beds.
• Yas residents, UAE-based teachers, or airline crew receive a 20% discount.

Cala 399 – Opening soon!

Cala 399 – This one is quite a bit further out of town, in the Ghantoot area, which is just before the Dubai border. Bab Al Nojoum – Hudayriyat

Sitting incredibly close to the city in the newly developed Al Hudayriat Island (off Abu Dhabi island’s west coast), you’ll find Bab Al Nojoum.

Operated by Mawarid Hotels and Hospitality, this glamping site has something for all levels of glampers on the beachfront. From a luxury two-floor offering with its own pool and private beach frontage, through to standard tents and luxury tents, even campervans!

You will find bonfire areas, BBQ facilities, a beach cinema, a restaurant, a juice bar, food outlets, and a kayak hire centre here.

How much does it cost? Various glamping and on-site tent camping options are available to suit your group size and level of luxury! Pricing starts from AED 450 on weekdays. Inquire directly for pricing on your dates from these options:

• Duplex tent: Family groups of up to 4 can enjoy their own private plunge pool, fully equipped kitchen, two queen-sized beds and a private bathroom with AC.

• Chalet Tent: These spacious tents include a mini kitchen, dining table and chairs, terrace and a plunge pool. Accommodation is one queen-sized bed, two singles, and a queen mattress, allowing groups of up to 6. Enjoy a private bathroom and AC.

• Camping on wheels: A totally unique concept, Waghi 1 & 2 are converted VWs or Blazar, the vintage Defender can fit two campers with mini kitchens, AC, sofa beds and towels (shared toilets and bathrooms).

• Beachside Camping: Several on-site tent options exist with shared bathrooms per cluster. Campsites also share a BBQ area, and picnic tables and seating are spotted around. Al Najm tents suit two campers, while Al Helal can fit four and Al Badr can fit six. Wave tents for two are located right on the beachfront.

You need to provide your own sleeping bags, but mattresses and towels can be provided. Note that air mattresses over ground mats will reduce your tent capacity; you book these in addition to your tent.

Bab Al Nojoum – Al Mugheirah Resort

A second branch of Bab Al Nojoum has opened on Mirfa Beach, approximately 1.5 hours west of Abu Dhabi city. Much more than just the glamping experience itself, guests are invited at Al Mugheirah Resort to disconnect from their tech and truly enjoy their surroundings with plenty on offer through the activity hub.

Located within the Marawah Marine Biosphere, this eco resort includes a bike rental store on site with 4.5km of dedicated bike paths around the 45-hectare property. Guests are also invited to choose from a menu of additional activities, including falconry, horseback riding, and cooking classes.

This remote site, set just 100 metres off the beach, offers visitors the choice of staying in a converted Airstream trailer or a one or two-bedroom cabin made from recycled shipping containers. All up, 40 caravans/cabins are on the site, well spread out, so each offers the guest some privacy.

BBQs are included if you want to BYO or sit around your own fire pit. Alternatively, join in a communal Braai experience for dinner, and the on-site chef can provide breakfast.

How much does it cost: All offer very comfortable glamping surrounds, AC and private bathrooms, you can expect:

• Airstream: Ideal for couples, the caravans sleep 2 with a private bathroom, terrace, minibar and outdoor dining. From AED 1000 ++

Heading beyond the big cities of the UAE, these are some of the best glamping sites and unique experiences you’ll find deep in the desert dunes.

Liwa Nights – Liwa Desert

A luxurious glamping experience under the stars in the majestic Liwa desert and the best way to get to grips with desert life. Take in the beauty of the rolling dunes whilst relaxing in your luxurious tent on camelback or on a Jeep safari.

Experience a trip to the stunning Liwa Oasis or learn more about Bedouin culture through the site’s varied entertainment programme, which includes camel riding and a falconry show.

Bab Al Nojoum Bateen Liwa – Liwa Desert

A further instalment of Bab Al Nojoum opened last winter in the heart of the Liwa desert – Bateen Liwa.

Glamping is an understatement for this desert property (it really more firmly belongs on our Abu Dhabi desert resort list), as each accommodation offers guests their own standalone villa in the desert, fully equipped with bedding and towels, a TV, kitchenette and dining area, outdoor furniture and a private pool.

Guests also have access to an outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre, a terrace and a restaurant in Liwa.

There are breakfast included as well as all-inclusive dining options available, and the choice of 1, 2 or 3 bedroom villas that can sleep up to 6 guests.

How much does it cost? Prices start at around AED 1,100 ++ for a one-bed villa per night with breakfast, through to AED 5,000 ++ per night for an all-inclusive 3-bedroom villa.

Where to find it: Tal Mur’ib Road, Mzeerah, Liwa, Abu Dhabi (it is adjacent to Liwa Nights, so don’t get the two confused!)

Arabian Nights Village – Al Khatim Desert

This one could almost be classified in the desert resort category, too, with facilities on offer and the fact that you are in a house or “bayt” rather than a tent.

Sitting less than an hour away from Abu Dhabi on the Al Ain Truck Road, you can access the site with your own AWD/4WD or take advantage of their city pick-up service to be whisked away for your overnight desert adventure.

Enjoy their evening array of outdoor activities, including camel rides, sandboarding, desert safari, quad biking, fat bikes, or even the beautiful oasis pool. Then relax and be entertained over BBQ dinner before retreating to your beautifully appointed bayt. Rooms are electronics-free, so perfect for properly switching off for the night, but include AC! Breakfast is included in an all-inclusive package.

How much does it cost?  The Bayts have flexible floor layouts, meaning you can either have a bedroom and a living room or convert it to a double-bedroom suite for a family. Couples can book doubles only – all bedrooms come with an ensuite.

• Bayt al Shaaer (Superior): Meaning “woven house,” this will give you a (quite luxurious) touch of a Bedouin tent design. From AED 1100++

• Bayt al Bahar (Deluxe): Inspired by pearl diving, they are modelled on traditional coastal residences. From AED 1200 ++

Camp Nujum – Qasr A Sarab

This is one of Abu Dhabi’s most exclusive glamping locations, part of the exquisite Qasr Al Sarab luxury desert resort deep in the Ras Al Khail desert.

You will feel completely secluded in a private spot near the hotel, but remote enough in the desert. Your Abu Dhabi glamping package is a complete Bedouin experience that includes desert activities, a BBQ dinner with storytelling, and breakfast over a falconry display.

Beach Camping in Abu Dhabi

If you are prepared to rough it a little and have all the necessary equipment, why not enjoy the great outdoors for free? Many of the best spots for beach camping in the Abu Dhabi Emirate are to the west of Abu Dhabi city.

Shuweihat Beach

Keep heading along the E11 and past Ruwais to the long stretch of beach between the Shuweihat Power Complex and Shuweihat Island. It is quite exposed here, so it is best for winter camping only and BYO everything!

Shuweihat Island and its stunning rock formations nearby are considered Government property, so technically, they should not be visited and are fenced off – though we continue to see photos regularly posted on social media. A 4WD is recommended for getting over the small beachfront dunes, and do watch the varying tide.

Al Wathba

This is an easy beginner campers’ location as you are not far from civilisation (the Al Wathba cycling track is nearby), and the dunes are relatively easy. Even some smaller SUVs/AWD vehicles could cope in most parts.

Due to its location, it can suffer a little from light pollution and noise into the evening, but it’s a great place to get started and become familiar with desert camping in Abu Dhabi.

There’s also Al Wathba Lake, which has recently been upgraded with proper picnic and campsite facilities. Your big consideration here is how close you want to be to other campers and the disrespect many show for late-night music and noise, particularly on weekends.

Al Khatim

The stretch of desert between Al Wathba and Al Ain is known as the Al Khatim Desert. It’s popular with several tour operators (see more below!) as it’s easy to reach from the city, but you should still be able to pick out a favourite remote spot and pitch your tent.

The larger, richer red dunes here encourage the sand sports fans, brilliant for sandboarding, but just watch out for any late-night 4WD or dune buggy action when you set up camp.

You can also join a tour group to help you through the dunes in your vehicle, including introductory lessons. Prices start from AED 1500 per person.

Liwa Desert

Arguably one of the most beautiful and isolated parts of the Arabian Gulf, Liwa desert camping offers endless possibilities for exploring and finding your own exclusive spot nestled amongst the dunes—and most definitely the best spot for stargazing.

Its isolation can also play against campers, however. It is not recommended for novices due to the difficult driving and lack of mobile phone signals in this area of the country.

The dunes are magnificent, so it’s one for your motoring enthusiasts and more experienced campers. Be warned the overnights can get super nippy in winter, and always travel in a group with plentiful food and water supplies.

Organised Tour Desert Camping in Abu Dhabi

If the idea of setting up your own tent camping in Abu Dhabi feels quite terrifying, or you are only visiting Abu Dhabi and don’t have the appropriate gear with you, your best bet is to join an organised evening and overnight tour into the desert.

Many tour companies will do the hard work for you, including city pick-ups and taking you off to their exclusive patch of UAE desert to enjoy an evening dinner and show before tent camping under the stars.

Over night camping in Abu Dhabi of this nature must not be confused with glamping! Your tent set-up is likely to be relativelybasic, and facilities are shared. But still, it is an unforgettable way to experience Abu Dhabi at night.

A Set Menu Brunch – Not Your Typical Buffet

Broadway’s Saturday brunch offers a three-course set sharing plate menu, with dishes brought to your table in sequence.

While the food quality was excellent — each dish beautifully presented and thoughtfully prepared — it’s important to know that this isn’t a buffet-style brunch.

You won’t find open stations or the freedom to pick and choose from a wide spread, and there’s no option to repeat a dish or mix and match from the menu, as you might typically see with a seated brunch experience.

That said, the curated menu did feature a nice variety, catering well to adult palates. The inclusion of some dishes that really require eating from individual bowls was a curious choice for a sharing concept.

This format might feel a little limited for those who enjoy a more traditional, indulgent buffet-style brunch experience with endless choice. However, this is a great alternative if you prefer a more relaxed dining pace without constantly getting up and down from the table.

The soft package selection was particularly impressive, with creative mocktails that gave the brunch a celebratory feel even for those not drinking alcohol. This made it a good fit for our teen and an excellent option for groups that include non-drinkers or younger adults (bearing in mind the drinking age in Abu Dhabi is 21).

It would have been nice to see some equally creative cocktail choices or, at the very least, a welcome cocktail included on the house menu.

Service and Setting – High Standards with a Hint of Stillness

As you’d expect from Emirates Palace, the service at Broadway was polished and professional throughout. Staff were attentive and courteous without being intrusive, and the pace of the meal was well timed.

The 1920s brasserie-style restaurant is stylish and well-appointed, with indoor and outdoor seating. During our late-April visit, both options were still open.

We noticed the atmosphere felt a little subdued overall — it may simply be the nature of the quieter, more intimate setting compared to the livelier brunch venues around town. This may not be the right brunch for you if you’re after a buzzier vibe or live entertainment.

It hits the right tone for adults or couples looking to relax over a beautifully plated meal in one of Abu Dhabi’s most luxurious settings.

Kid-Friendly? It Depends on the Day

While the brunch setup works well for adults and older children who enjoy trying new foods, younger kids may find the experience less engaging. During our visit, there wasn’t a specific children’s menu, and no on-site entertainment was available as part of the Saturday brunch.

We should note, however, that Broadway offers a Sunday Roast experience as well, which includes entertainment from Kids Palace — something worth considering for families with younger children who’d benefit from a bit of distraction while parents dine.

The Best Extra – Access to the Emirates Palace Beach Club

One of the real highlights of the day came after our final course: brunch guests receive access to the Emirates Palace beach club, and for families, this was a game-changer. After a relaxed and grown-up meal, the kids were thrilled to switch gears and spend the afternoon exploring the expansive pools, water slides, and lazy river.

This post-brunch perk really elevated the day, offering a chance to unwind in one of the most impressive leisure settings Abu Dhabi has to offer. A buggy ride back through the lush, manicured grounds of the Palace added an extra touch of luxury to wrap things up.

If you’re looking to book either the Saturday Brunch or the Sunday Roast at Broadway, the following prices apply:

Final Thoughts on Broadway Brunch

Broadway’s Saturday brunch at Emirates Palace best suits those looking for a refined and quieter brunch experience in an iconic setting, particularly families with older children or groups that include non-drinkers.

While it doesn’t offer the variety, entertainment, or food selection of some of Abu Dhabi’s larger, livelier brunches, it more than makes up for it with quality food, attentive service, and access to one of the city’s most beautiful beach clubs.

Would we go again? Yes — but perhaps with the understanding that it’s a brunch with a difference. The Sunday Roast may be the better choice for families with younger kids. Broadway’s Saturday brunch certainly has its place in Abu Dhabi’s weekend dining scene for a relaxed, elegant day out with a luxurious twist.

Abu Dhabi basks in sunshine year-round and boasts a stunning coastline with numerous inviting beach destinations. While the intense summer heat in the Middle East makes beach outings less appealing from June to September, by October, the weather transforms into ideal conditions for enjoying the sand and sea all through the winter.

That said, access to Abu Dhabi’s beautiful beaches has become increasingly restricted, with fewer free options available for residents and visitors. Many of the city’s prime beachfront locations now require entry fees or are attached to resorts, making it harder to enjoy the shoreline without cost.

While this shift limits public access, it doesn’t detract from the undeniable beauty of Abu Dhabi’s beaches, ranging from serene island escapes to vibrant city shores.

With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the best beach spots in Abu Dhabi, whether you’re seeking a luxurious retreat or a scenic public stretch of sand to sink your toes into.

1. Saadiyat Beach

Saadiyat Beach is undoubtedly the most beautiful beach in Abu Dhabi and a contender for the best beach in the Middle East. Its crystal clear turquoise waters and white sand rival those of the Maldives. However, don’t be deceived by calm mornings; depending on the weather, the waves can be pretty intense by mid-afternoon.

Stretching over 4 kilometres, the dazzling white coral sand beach is divided between several luxury beach resorts, a high-end beach club, and two public beach areas. It’s a great place for long strolls, collecting seashells, sunbathing, and swimming.

If you’re lucky, you might spot a dolphin or two or even baby hawksbill turtles as they hatch from the numerous nesting sites along the beach.

Let’s take a closer look at the different areas of Saadiyat Beach:

Mamsha Beach Saadiyat (previously Soul Beach)

Situated near the St. Regis Hotel, Mamsha Beach is a one-kilometre stretch of sun loungers overlooking the Arabian Gulf.

The entry fee is now a staggering AED 125 weekdays and AED 200 on weekends, which gives you a sunbed and umbrella for the whole day. And not a whole lot more. Sure, it’s beautiful, but….

There are toilets and showers, and soft drinks and fruit can be purchased on-site. Each sun lounger also has a scannable QR code that links to the substantial and deliciously tempting menu from Saadiyat Beach Club. Any food ordered arrives by golf buggy but can take time as it has to travel some distance.

Flanking the beach is the Al Mamsha development, with numerous shops and cafes where you can buy items to take away (including a very nice vegan cafe directly opposite the main entrance to the beach). There is no playground, but there is a trampoline for the kids.

It’s a lovely, clean beach that allows you to access Saadiyat’s beautiful waters. The beach is open daily from 7:00 AM to Sunset.

Note that the entry fee here doesn’t include car parking, bear in mind if you”ll be parking here all day you’re looking t a further AED 10 per hour

Kai Beach

Replacing what used to be Saadiyat Public Beach and BAKE, Kai Beach brings another trendy beachfront location to the capital (albeit locals are still fuming that another of our free public beaches here was taken away, and parking is a nightmare).

Here, the team from Saadiyat Beach Club delivers ‘barefoot luxury’: sun beds and umbrellas, toilets, showers, and changing rooms accessible via boardwalks behind the dunes at the top of the beach.

Delicious bites and a variety of beverages, including alcohol, are available from Kai Beachfront Restaurant. Shisha is also available and can be ordered for your sunbed. No outside food and drinks or beach mats are permitted, but part of your entry fee is redeemable on F&B)

NB – Fridays are Miss Kai Day and reserved for ladies only for AED 150

Open daily from 7:00 AM to Sunset.

Saadiyat Beach Hotels

If you’re looking for exclusivity, a stay at one of Saadiyat’s luxury 5 star resorts is what you need for the perfect beach holiday in Abu Dhabi.

The St. Regis, Park Hyatt, and Jumeirah hotels all offer top-quality accommodation, dining options, and spa facilities with pool and beach bar service.

The Saadiyat Rotana and Rixos Premium are other great options, which are particularly well suited to families with young children; the latter being Abu Dhabi’s only true all-inclusive hotel.

Several of these resorts also offer private villa and pool options.

Beach access is usually from 8:00 AM until sunset, but some hotels vary depending on the season and hotel occupancy. If staying at one of these hotels isn’t within your budget (as they are amongst some of the most pricey hotels in the UAE), day passes are available and start at AED 250.

Saadiyat Beach Club

Saadiyat Beach Club is the height of luxury with several fine dining options as well as beach and pool access. Beautiful changing facilities, a gym, saunas, steam rooms, and jacuzzis are available for use, and a beauty spa and hairdressing salon are on site.

Throw in a kids’ club with a shallow pool with water features as well as a playground, and we’ve got the perfect luxury beach day out for all the family!

• Day passes are available for AED 215 female or AED 275 males, or AED 399 for a couple during the week – with partial F&B redemption. Children aged 7-17 years pay AED 100, while children under 7 are free.

• Prices rise to AED 375 for the guys or AED 499 for a couple and AED 150 for children over 7 at weekends. Family passes are AED 699 or look for their combined brunch offers..

• Ladies, they often run specials, currently; Tuesdays all day AED 199 with free-flow beverages 12:00 – 4:00PM; Friday AED 150 day passes.

2. The Corniche Beaches

The most easily accessible beach in Abu Dhabi is the Corniche Public Beach, which runs parallel to the famous Corniche Road. This long sandy beach is flanked by verdant gardens set against the backdrop of Abu Dhabi’s impressive skyline.

The beach is protected by an artificial breakwater, which makes it particularly suitable for families with smaller children, as there are no strong currents. However, the minimal tidal range does mean that the sand close to the shore has a mossy feel underfoot, which some people find a little disconcerting.

The beach is divided into sections for the general public, ladies, and families, each with its own amenities. Below are highlighted these sections and where to access them.

Al Bahar Beach

The A’l Bahar area of the Corniche starts beside the Nation Riviera Beach Club. It is characterized by the large number of converted shipping containers that serve as food and beverage outlets. The beach is located directly opposite the Abu Dhabi breakwater, and the shallow, calm waters make it a great place for swimming.

Al Bahar offers a wide range of activities besides swimming and lounging around on the beach. Kids will enjoy the large playground and jungle gym with zip lines. For the grown-ups, there are a variety of water sports on offer, as well as sports facilities, including volleyball courts, basketball courts, and spaces to play football and other ball games. There’s even an outdoor gym for real fitness fanatics!

Out on the water, Aqua Fun (which closed after COVID) has been replaced by AquaDhabi water park – a giant inflatable water obstacle course. Juniors (4-7 years old; min 110cm) can get all-day access to the kid’s circuit for AED 95, while a standard ticket will additionally get you all-day access to the SportsPark XL with 35+ obstacles for AED 125. Open daily 9:00am to sunset.

A’ l Bahar Beach has plenty of coffee shops, some good sit-down restaurants, showers, and toilets, making it one of the best places in Abu Dhabi to hang out by the beach.

Entry to A’l Bahar beach is free, whilst some activities are paid extras.

The beach is open daily 7:00 AM to sunset. The rest of A’l Bahar stays open until 10:00 PM in the evening or midnight at weekends.

Al Sahil Beach – Corniche Gates 1-6

Once the Corniche’s most popular section, the Al Sahil Beach area is getting a much-needed revamp. There are clean toilets, a few coffee shops, and a fantastic pirate-ship playground for the kids.

For those wanting to be more active, there are beach volleyball courts and spaces to play football and other games. Alternatively, you can take a stroll along the boardwalks that run through the well-kept gardens that act as a buffer between the beach and the busy main road.

You can also hire bikes, eScooters or pedal buggies to ride along the iconic 8-kilometre stretch of coastline.

Sahil Family Beach – Gates 1 & 2

This beach is set aside for families only and is surrounded by a fence; single men are not allowed. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available.

A small entry fee of AED 10.50 adults and AED 5.25 for older kids

Sahil Mixed Beach (free entry) – Gate 3 & 4

This beach is accessible to everyone and is popular as one of the best free things to do in Abu Dhabi. You have to bring your own sunbeds and umbrellas, but there are showers and toilets. in the plaza area and a large children’s playground.

Entrance free

Adjacent to GFate 3, you will now find a section of the beach which has been dedicated to People of Determination. This includes accessible walkways, dedicated bathrooms, and floating wheelchairs, along with complimentary water stations and transportation.

Sahil Mixed Beach – Gate 5 & 6

This beach is for both men and women. There are sun loungers (extra cost of AED 25), umbrellas, toilets, showers and snack bars.

Entrance fee of AED 10.50 adults and AED 5.25 for older kids

All beaches on the Corniche are monitored by lifeguards and security staff. Alcohol is not allowed and you should be very careful not to take photographs of other bathers. All sections of the Corniche beach are open from sunrise to sunset; restaurants will open later and close later.

3. Hudayriyat Island Beach

For many years, residents of Abu Dhabi often referred to the ‘bridge to nowhere’ – now, that bridge finally leads to the spectacular beach hotspot of Al Hudayriyat Island.

Amongst an island packed with action sports, you can also find a 600-meter-long white sandy beach, clean showers, changing facilities, and a variety of coffee shops and restaurants.

Access to the beach and sun lounges on Hudayriyat used to be entirely free for several years, but this looked to change in late 2024 when suddenly guests were imposed with fees for deck chair usage; we’ve since clarified the pricing as follows for the two sections of beachfront here, which are open daily from 7:00 am to sunset:

Marsana East

A premium experience with towels provided, mini beach coolers and on-demand F&B services in addition to quality sunbeds and sunshades:

New for Summer 2025! Marsana East will now be home to Abu Dhabi’s first night beach! From July to September, enjoy the (slightly!) cooler waters after darkwith lifeguards on duty until 10:00 PM (weekdays) and Midnight (weekends). Charges still apply for entry from sunset to closing time.

Marsana West

Offering a simpler plastic sunbed set up with sunshades and on-demand F&B, this is a little more budget-friendly—though it still hurts for what used to be free! You’ll need to BYO towel.

On the plus side, they have stated that outside food and beverages are permitted in these beach areas. Note that Marsana is dry, so your F&B choices to order will not include alcohol, nor can you bring your own in.

For anyone not content with sitting around all day, Hudayriyat also boasts a 10-kilometre cycle track with bike rental, beach volleyball, basketball, tennis courts, football pitches, kayaking and kite surfing opportunities and the newly opened largest wave pool in the world, Surf Abu Dhabi.

The marina here has also substantially expanded, offering numerous boat tours, jet ski rentals, and other watercraft for hire. For more details, contact Sahara Marine at +971 56 99199 18 or booking@saharamarine.ae.

For younger visitors, the pedestrianized Marsana area has a fenced playground and Circuit X splash park, as well as opportunities to swim and build sandcastles.

To get the most out of the experience (and have your beachfront included without an additional entry fee!), why not stay overnight at the island’s luxury campsite, Bab Al Nojoum? You can also walk the Hudayriyat Heritage Trail boardwalk between Bal Al Nojoum and Marsana if you’d prefer not to dip in the water.

Open daily from 8:00 AM until sunset.

4. Yas Beach

Yas Beach is situated on Yas Island – home to the F1 Grand Prix Race Track, Yas Links Golf Club, Ferrari World, Warner Brother’s World and Yas Waterworld.

With a wide range of activities, including jet-skiing, beach volleyball and an outdoor fitness centre, this beach is a must for those who like a more active beach day and those seeking a moment of calm from the hustle and bustle of Yas Island’s other attractions!

Yas Beach offers a large pool, a smaller splash area, and a pristinely clean sandy beach. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available, and private cabanas and chalets for an additional fee.

There are several dining options and bars serving alcohol, making Yas Beach the perfect place to relax and unwind. The proximity to the mangroves and numerous small islands makes this a great spot for canoeing, kayaking, and taking in a bit of nature!

All Yas Island hotels offer complementary day passes for Yas Beach (get your voucher from your concierege), but if you’re not staying on Yas Island entry to the beach will set you back AED 60 on weekdays (Monday to Thursday) and AED 150 at weekends*. Children under 12 can enter the beach for free if they are accompanied by an adult.

Yas Beach is open daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Saturday used to be dedicated to ladies but we understand it is now open to all, every day.

5. Al Bateen Beach

Situated in Al Bateen, a family villa district on the west coast of Abu Dhabi Island, this 800-metre-long “Blue Flag” beach overlooks Al Hudayriyat Island and the famous Hudayriyat Bridge.

The beach is popular with locals and expat families as an easy-going free activity. It’s a great place in Abu Dhabi to swim and enjoy a family picnic. You’ll find plenty of amenities here, including showers, changing rooms, toilets, and playgrounds.

More than just lazing on the beach, Al Bateen Beach offers water sports such as kayaking, stand-up paddling, and jet skis for hire. It makes for a relaxing day out for the whole family.

Part of Al Bateen is sectioned off for ladies only (Al Bateen Beach for Women – recently renamed Al Bateen Ladies Social Club by Matcha). It used to only cost AED 25 to enter this section of the beach, but we understand you must now by a Day Pass which has climbed to a hefty AED 150 weekdays and AED 150 weekends – see more in our Beach Clubs guide.

The entrance to Al Bateen Public Beach is free and the beach is open 8:00 AM to sunset.

6. Al Maya Island

Another trendy beach with a parting vibe is to be found on the private island, Al Maya Island. The island is accessed by a 15-minute boat trip from the clearly signposted pier near Qasr Al Watan (The Presidential Palace).

The facilities include a soft sandy beach, a swimming pool (with a kid’s pool), a jacuzzi, and a licensed restaurant. The island is beautifully landscaped, with wild gazelles roaming free around the site, offering some select overnight accommodation.

Whilst Al Maya was previously known for its raucous weekends, it offers a tranquil escape for couples and families alike during the week.

Day passes start at AED 200 during the week – fully redeemable on F&B; whilst weekends, ladies are free before 2:00PM, gents, you’re paying 250 AED to join the party, but get 100 AED back on F&B.

Access is free for children up to 13 years old (limited to 2 children per adult) during the week.

New Openings – And Closed Abu Dhabi Beaches

In a city made up of a series of islands—natural and man-made—it’s no surprise that a variety of beach clubs and water sports spots open up along the Abu Dhabi coast. As is the region’s nature, some have been there for decades, and others come and go.

New Beaches and coming soon in 2024-25

• We saw the opening of Fahid Beach Club, on the small Fahid Island that sits on the coastline between Yas and Saadiyat Islands. Currently billed as only a seasonal pop-up for winter (open Wednesday to Sunday from 12:00 pm to sundown), let’s see if something more permanent is established here with several miles of undeveloped coastline.
• Two new man-made beaches are going up on Yas Island (for families and adults only), in front of the new Yas Bay entertainment precinct. Whilst currently a real eye-sore, we do think they’ll significantly enhance the area, albeit no doubt at another costly fee for families. This will complement the existing Cafe Del Mar adults-only club and Yas Beach, as we mentioned above, on the other side of the island.

Closed or renamed beaches

• Cove Beach, Makers District on Reem Island – suddenly announced its closure in 2023; we await to see what may open in its place.
• Kai Beach has replaced Saadiyat Public Beach (previously also known as BAKE), so there’s no longer any free lounger sections at least on Saadiyat Island, you can walk along the beach for free still.
• The old Hiltonia is now part of West Bay Abu Dhabi – attached to the Radisson Blu, a private beach club at the end of the Corniche.

Beach Hotels on Abu Dhabi’s Grand Canal (Khor al Maqta)

There are several hotels along the Grand Canal, the waterway that separates Abu Dhabi island from the mainland, that enjoy their own beach front. These are:

• Fairmont Bab al Bahr
• Traders Hotel Qaryat Al Beri
• Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri
• The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi Grand Canal

The Ritz Carlton sits immediately adjacent to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, whilst the other three sit on the opposite bank (the name Bab al Bahr “Between the Bridges” referring to Al Maqta Bridge and Mussafah Bridge, two of the three main thoroughfares into Abu Dhabi Island.

Each commands spectacular mosque views, particularly at sunset. The waters here are calm, and a traditional dhow service operates between the hotels. This is a great location for those wanting to be close to both the city of Abu Dhabi and off-island options, including the Yas Island theme parks, AUH airport, and easy access to Dubai.

We’re not going to lie though; these are imported sand beaches for the most part and are simply not as nice as the soft white sand you’ll find on Saadiyat.

Abu Dhabi Beach Hotels on Yas Island

Although there are no Yas Island beach resorts, all of the hotels on Yas have access to Yas Beach via a shared shuttle service. This private beach is free for hotel guests or sunbeds can be rented to daycationers at Yas Beach Club.

This is a good option for those on short stopovers who want to catch a bit of the city’s theme park action as well as catch a little bit of sun.

The Yas Island hotels are significantly cheaper than the resort-style offerings on Saadiyat Island. Though granted, not as luxurious, they are practical and convenient – you are less than 10 minutes from Zayed International Airport (AUH).

Beach Hotels Elsewhere in Abu Dhabi

Beyond these clusters of hotels, there are other locations just outside the city centre and further around the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, offering guests a private beach with their hotel stay.

• Al Raha Beach Hotel – off the E10 Highway, close to the new airport on the way to Dubai
• Zaya Nurai Island Resort – exclusive luxury island experience just 10 mins off the Saadiyat Island coast
• Al Maya Island & Resort – accessed by boat, adjacent to the Presidential Palace, there are 1, 2, and 3 bedroom villas to rent

Beach Hotels Elsewhere in Abu Dhabi Emirate

• Danat Jebel Dhanna Resort – Al Dhafra, Western Region 3 hours west of the city
• Anantara Desert Islands Resort – Sir Bani Yas Island, approx 2.5 hours west of the city, then a ferry ride
• Anantara Santorini Abu Dhabi Retreat – Brand new in February 2024, this boutique 22-room adult-only coastal retreat sits in Ghantoot, halfway to Dubai on the Persian Gulf
• Nawras Island – still to come later in 2024, the unveiling of the luxury resort by Hilton’s exclusive LXR Collection brand promises ocean front villas – stay tuned!

Bab Al Nojoum Glamping

Housing groups between two to six people in simple canvas tents through to Converted VW Vans and luxury glamping – or even enjoy a two-floor floating tent for stargazing with your own private beach!

The Bab Al Nojoum Hudayriyat property was significantly expanded in early 2024 with the opening of Bab Al Nojoum Hudayriyat Villas, a collection of Ocean View Villas and Over Water Villas. This luxury offering is a significant step up, providing guests with private pools and all-inclusive packages.

321 Sports boasts a huge range of indoor and outdoor sporting amenities, including:

• A full-sized outdoor football pitch
• 4 basketball courts

There are also facilities for paddle tennis and badminton (these facilities have rapidly expanded in 2023)

Incorporated within 321 Sports is the already opened 10km bike track, free to use, or you can rent your bikes from external providers at 321 Sports, as well as a 2km running track.

Part of the sports facilities is the 321 Hub, which includes a gym, bike studio, cafe, and kids’ zone.

Circuit X is Abu Dhabi’s newest outdoor adventure hub, offering thrilling, fun and challenging experiences for people of all ages. This one-of-a-kind adventure park features four exhilarating offerings, including a BMX Track and High Rope Park at Adventure Village and a Skate Park and Splash & Climb Park at Marsana.

Trail X

A new mountain biking circuit, TrailX MTB, has also opened on the island, with four levels of difficulty and 15 kilometres of off-road bike track to enjoy.

• The Green Trail is 8.9 km long for beginners and casual riders.
• Blue is 2.8 km and suitable for those with some biking experience with medium challenges.
• Red is for advanced riders, 1.9km and highly challenging.
• Black is a high adrenaline 1.9 km trail and highly challenging for your expert bikers.

The Hudayriyat Heritage Trail

Operated by Mawarid Hotels and Hospitality, explore the waterfront Hudayriyat Heritage Trail to connect with nature and learn more about the historical and cultural significance of the island.

The Heritage Trail links from the adventure and Bab al Nojoum side of the island to Marsana.

Marsana

Marsana is the entertainment district and waterfront promenade. From kid-friendly fast food to coffees to go, the fun and colourful beachfront dining spot offers a “grab-and-go” option or dine-in with food truck-style dining, taking in the waterside views – a fun, vibrant, and utterly Instagrammable experience!

Circuit X Splash Park and Skate Park

Note that these two Circuit X parks are within the Marsana complex on the island’s western side. Both are paid activities, and booking in advance is recommended.

Beach and Playground

The beachfront and playground at Al Hudayriyat opened during the first stage of development and remain free*. There’s a 600m stretch of calm water patrolled by lifeguards with shower and toilet facilities.

Beach sports such as Volleyball are available.

The beach is open daily from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Recent new additions include an outdoor gym and play area (rumours are abound this could soon become a paid feature too).

* The ‘free’ beach has been sadly removed with profit around every corner it seems lately in Abu Dhabi, you now pay from AED 25 for adults on a weekday for Marsana Beach West, through to AED 100 for the more ‘exclusive’ Marsana Beach East on a weekend.

NEW SUMMER 2025: Marsana East beach has been fitted out with floodlighting and will now be open until 10:00 pm weekdays, midnight on weekends for night swimming, the first of its kind in Abu Dhabi.

Marsana Express Train

A cute addition the younger kids love, the slow-moving locomotive takes a loop around the paved areas of Marsana for 15 AED per person.

Aqua Park Marsana

Added in 2022, this inflatable water course, spelling out the word “Marsana” from above, can be found just off the main Hudayriyat beach.

The inflatable park is fully supervised and has 247 different features for kids to explore! Safety jackets and non-slip rubber shoes are provided.

Water Sports Hire

There are lots of options when it comes to hitting the water independently on Hudayriyat, from jet ski rentals to stand up paddleboards, yacht rental paddle boats and donut boats.

Prices start around 75 AED for basic water crafts for 20 minutes and go up to 1,400 AED for hiring a fishing boat for half a day. You’ll need an Emirates ID with you for proof of age on some of the powered equipment.

Surf Abu Dhabi

Opened in October 2024, Surf Abu Dhabi brought the world’s largest man-made wave pool to Abu Dhabi. Built in collaboration with surf legend Kelly Slater, the 51 million square metre facility will be perfect for amateurs to pros.

Surf Abu Dhabi is accompanied by Ilios Beach Club and Nalu Surf Club, which will provide high-end dining and entertainment in an expansive indoor and outdoor seating area with sunset views.

How do you get to Hudayriyat Island, Abu Dhabi?

Al Hudayriyat Island sits to the east of the main Abu Dhabi Island. The spectacular suspension bridge to the island is an extension of Sheikh Shakhbout bin Sultan Street (19th street); you’ll find the entry at the junction of Khalifa Al Mubarak Street (Al Bateen Beach) – which is about halfway between the Abu Dhabi Corniche and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

You can drive or use the dedicated cycling lanes (just don’t stop for photos, even though the views back to the city skyline are spectacular).

How do you book activities at Al Hudayriyat?

The cycling track and running track remain free on a ‘first come’ basis; they tend not to be too crowded, but you may find them frequently shut for events over weekends in the winter, especially.

All other recreation facilities must be pre-booked, as linked with the third-party providers above.
