Abu Dhabi is set to become home to one of the world’s most ambitious entertainment venues, with the announcement of Sphere Abu Dhabi on Yas Island. The landmark immersive entertainment project will be the first Sphere venue built outside the United States, following the success of the famous Sphere in Las Vegas.
Backed by a USD 1.7 billion investment from the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, the venue is expected to transform Yas Island into an even bigger global events and tourism destination, combining cutting-edge technology with Emirati storytelling, concerts, sporting events, and immersive experiences.
What is Sphere Abu Dhabi?
Sphere Abu Dhabi will be a next-generation immersive entertainment venue designed to host large-scale experiences unlike traditional arenas or theatres. Inspired by the Las Vegas Sphere, the Abu Dhabi version will feature advanced visual, audio, and multi-sensory technologies that place audiences “inside” the experience.
The venue will host three main types of events:
- Fully immersive Sphere Experiences
- Concert residencies from regional and international artists
- Major sporting events, conferences, brand launches, and special events
One of the most striking features will be the Exosphere — the enormous spherical LED exterior that can display digital art, storytelling, and visual experiences visible from across Yas Island. Plans include showcasing Emirati culture and artwork from local artists on the building’s exterior.
With a capacity of up to 20,000 guests depending on event configuration, Sphere Abu Dhabi is expected to become one of the UAE’s most iconic entertainment venues.

When Will Sphere Abu Dhabi Open?
Construction of Sphere Abu Dhabi is expected to be completed by the end of 2029.
While no official opening date has yet been announced, visitors can likely expect the venue to begin hosting events sometime in 2030 once testing and final preparations are complete.
Where Will Sphere Abu Dhabi Be Located?
Sphere Abu Dhabi will be built on Yas Island between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, placing it at the heart of Abu Dhabi’s growing entertainment district.
The location positions the venue close to several of Yas Island’s major attractions, including:
- Ferrari World Abu Dhabi
- Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi
- Yas Waterworld
- Yas Marina Circuit, home of the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
- And coming soon, Disney Abu Dhabi
It will also sit within easy reach of Zayed International Airport, helping position the venue as a major tourism gateway for Abu Dhabi.
Why Sphere Abu Dhabi Matters
The project represents another major milestone in Abu Dhabi’s long-term tourism and entertainment strategy. Alongside developments such as Saadiyat Cultural District and the newly announced Disney theme park resort for Yas Island, Sphere Abu Dhabi is expected to attract millions of visitors and generate thousands of local jobs once operational.
Officials have also highlighted the project’s focus on Emirati culture, with plans for locally inspired immersive productions, Arabic music performances, and digital storytelling experiences that showcase the UAE to a global audience.
